Hi guys, I'm thinking about going synthetic on the jeep and doing one year OCI's. The manual says 7500 Kms or one year, so I may just do anual changes. I'm thinking amsoil or castrol 0w30.

I know the syntec is on the heavier end of teh 30 weight scale, and one of my reasons for going syn is for whatever mpg benefits I might get. Would that defeat the purpose going to a heavy 30?

Would the syntec do 1 year changes happily?

thanks again!!

Jeep 4.0's tend to like heavier oils, so I think the GC would be a perfect fit for a 1-year OCI....

The only objection to GC ..and this is from observations in the UOA forum, is that the TBN appears to be a YMMV situation. In some engines it would be hard to figure how it could make 10k. It may work okay in your situation. Otherwise, it's a fine oil, imo.

SSO will have no issue from that end of things.

I do ~9kmile intervals with Rotella T 5w40. I don't know that the others have enough TBN to go with extended OCIs, but they might. Rotella certainly does and the engine seems to thrive on it.

As for MPG benefits... its a Jeep. It gets what it gets, and you can't get blood from a turnip or 25 mpg from a (real) 4x4 ;-)

haha, I'm sensing some jeep love.

I'm picking her up tonight! My wife and I are pumped. I had a '90 toyota 4x4 pickup a few years ago. I liked it, but I could seem to get the roof to come off. : )

I may go with slightly shorter Intervals with 0w30. OR use amsoils xl line.

Thanks,

Ryan

I'd check my oil with a UOA at around 5-6 months to see whats going on before I go the 1 year OCI.Other than that I use 0W oils in my 2 Jeeps year round and they love it.

I *seriously* love my Cherokee. I bought it from a cow-orker last summer with the intention of driving it around a bit, doing a little offroading, fixing a few things, and then giving it to my daughter as a sacrificial first car. It took all of about a month for me to go ape over the thing. It still drives great, doesn't leak or burn *anything*, and for all intents and purposes looks/feels like a new car. Yeah, it rides like a truck, but the turning circle is tighter than most compact cars, it steers like its on rails, and everything is tight.

By comparison, a neighbor asked me to look at her Mazda 626 of about the same age and identical mileage yesterday and see if the mechanics were yanking her about it needing a clutch. Well, its got a *seriously* shot clutch, steering as sloppy as a neglected Twin-I Ford with 200k miles, interior rattles, spongy brakes, engine pings every time you halfway lug it. So why does Consumer Reports love Mazda and hate Jeeps??? (don't bother answering, I already know)
