Any HPL users on 3.5 EcoBoosts?

Any other 3.5 EcoBoost owners using HPL oils yet? Just ordered some 5W30 PCMO for my '19 F150 as that's what Dave @High Performance Lubricants recommended. Said a fleet customer has lots of 3.5EBs on the regular PCMO @ 15k OCIs with 5k filter changes. I've still got some OG Fram XGs for my truck, so I'll probably sample @ 5k and see what the insols look like, along with viscosity. 15k just seems soooo much longer than the "generally accepted" 5k OCIs. I'm not averse to 6-6.5k but this is still more than double. I will do a C&P of the filter when the time comes, however; I'm sure there will be some carbon but my truck's had Ravenol DXG in it since 23k except for one unplanned OCI with Ford dealer 5w30 bulk.

I’m not trying to crowd your post. I have a 2.0 ecoboost. Every 3000-4000 on the OCI for me. A lot of short distances. It’s not that the oil is worn out in that amount of miles for me. It’s I have a good bit of oil dilution ( fuel ) by 3000 miles . Thinned out pretty good. I run 5w30. Still under warranty. But let me say this. She don’t put but 3500 miles a year on it anyhow. So it’s a once a year deal. 2019 edge with 12,000 miles on it.

Greatpost here. Now the 3.5 or 2.7 Ecoboost on extended runs is where this $$$ oil can be a gem. Thanks for trying this route out. 15k I'd be tossing and turning all night. Interested to see results at 5k and potential for 10k. I wouldn't push 15k but it sure ain't my sled! Do you have any concerns over timing chain wear? Wondering if you asked them vis email or have any info on that.

I'm still using RGT 5w30 and Mobil 1 0w40 in my 2013 3.5 ecoboost. I set the oil life monitor at 60% and get about 5,000 km before I change it. Buy oil on sale and change it often is my approach, so far so good. Fuel dilution has been the deciding factor to my short oil change intervals, especially in winter with all the cold starts and short trips.

I just filled my 2.7 Ecoboost with HPL PCMO series, not sure how long to run it. I've had good UOA's with Schaeffer's at around 5-6k changes, no fuel was present and TBN was around 2. Probably a waste not to run the HPL even further than that, but's it's hard go that far and not worry about pushing it too far! I'll hopefully sample around 5K

I go ~10k miles on my 3.5eb. My dad drives it now so I usually send him to quick change when it needs it. When I was driving it and towed a lot I used 0w40. Now it gets 5w30. I would do 10k + on hpl without hesitation

145+k still runs fine

Maybe @High Performance Lubricants can provide some fleet data?

So I went ahead and ordered the 6qts of HPL PCMO 5w30 and a quart of the EC30. I have a vacuum pump so when it arrives tomorrow, I will siphon a quart of the DXG out and replace it with EC30, and finish the normal OCI (I’m about 800 miles in, so the EC will spend at least 4200-5000 miles in the sump).

I’ve got a road trip coming up which will knock off about 1200 miles and be the first real distance with HPL. The truck currently has an XG10575 which I will change when I dump the Ravenol/EC30 mix and cut it, and repeat the same when it’s full HPL.

I’m not going to UOA the mix, but I will do dipstick tube samples at 5 & 10k and will converse with Dave how the numbers look at that point. If I get to the 15k as expected, I’ll do another dipstick sample, and then a final sample when I get to the recommended OCI.

So, on top of the $80 for the oil, there’s potentially another $160+ in UOAs. Seems steep, but if the HPL performs as expected and lasts 15k+, the oil costs become a wash ($26x3 for Mobil 1 EP vs $80x1 for HPL) plus it saves time and wear on the belly pan, drain plug, and filter mount threads. Oh, I also snagged a Stahlbus drain plug so I’m pretty pumped about that too!

I’m really hoping since I don’t do the crazy idling that Dave said the fleet is subjected to, that I may even be able to hit 20k interval. If it gets to that point, I will definitely invest in a Frantz system and keep that oil clean! It’s a never-ending saga! 😂

Unfortunately I am not at liberty to share data from the fleet. What I can say is there are a lot of them, and there are no timing chain issues even with extended drains. The drains are well established with successful analysis.

David, sorry about the previous disclosure issue.. it’s corrected 👍🏻

Since the majority of my oil changes have been with the Ravenol DXG which is reportedly high in Group IV/V, is it safe to assume I should see less carbon material in the filter after running your oil than someone who’s ran the other big-name oils that aren’t heavy in Group IV/V?

I know a lot is probably proprietary, but are there “big” changes in your oil compared to how the Ravenol is advertised that would be responsible for all the heavy-duty cleaning we’ve seen on this board?

Just trying to understand the chemical reaction side of it since many on this board believe that “all synthetics clean engines” when the reality is most do not. Thanks!

Watching. Still looking for my go-to oil on a 2.7eb. Currently on Amsoil and planning for M1 0W40 next time for winter idling.

OK, change of plans since I want to install my new Stahlbus drain plug. No Engine Cleaner will be used on the Eco, I will use it on my Transit Connect 2.0. I’ve included some Stahlbus photo porn for people who are scared about a Fumoto valve opening without knowing… the Stahlbus has double protection. Should be great to help avoid the normal EcoBoost drain mess!

Nice work, I like it

Million to one shot, Doc.

I’m pretty sure it’s not, you can find more than one story on this board, and there’s less than a million users. I’ve used Fumoto before; this just seems safer. No way other than intentional of opening this; it’s a ball-check valve.
