Really tight. City has cut funding for several years and vehicle funding was tight before that. They have a fleet of about 600 cars, and cars well over 10 years old are not that unusual.

All of the cars that ran earlier 5w30 dinos (ie they sheared into 20wt territory for much of the OCI) and were not know to spontaneously vomit engine parts along the road.

I vote that any Xw20 longevity/CAFE conspiracy threads get marked political and moved or closed.

Is there a second for that motion?

I think it's good to talk about 5W20 VS 5W30,even more!

I mean,c'mon,my truck engines (4.2 V6) internal specs have not changed from 97-08 and was speced to use 5W30 up until 2002.Then,suddenly,like a

out of the blue,Ford says we have to use 5W20 now,or your engine will be voided (under warranty) if anything happens to it! How about the other reasons I hear; "Your engine will blow up,the crankshaft will fall out,the 5W20 Gestapo will arrest you!!"

My 99 4.6 Grand Marquis had nothing but 5w20 Motorcraft Blend from 60K miles to 200K miles..It never used a drop of oil between the 5K miles service..My 05 4.6 Vic has had nothing but 5w20 Motorcraft Blend and sometimes 5w20 Motorcraft Full Synthetic since I got it at 20K miles back in 05..It now has 131K miles.

Your point?

Just my .02 cents

My 2003 sable was speced for 5W20 from the factory,it has 174,500 mi, i used 5W30 in it, no oil drip, changed to mobil 5W20, oil leak. going back to 5W30 dino, at 174,500 mi the 5W30 will not make a difference in terms of tolerances, but it will probably not leak out as fast.

2000 Ford Taurus 3.0 DOHC w\290k+ miles using whatever 5W30 synthetic oil\filter combo is on sale. Never had any engine problems and MPG is still high twenties hwy. Thought about using 5W20, but why change something that's been working well for 12 years and almost 300k?

I never saw 10W available. Maybe some rare racing qualifying oil, but not for civilians. So saying that lots of cars with high miles were noted that ran 10W is astounding to me.

Makes me wonder if I should use 5W20 in my 2002 Tacoma. It was back speced. I wish Mobil maded a full synthetic 5w20 HM like their 5w30.
