I am in Canada. We don't have Carquest, etc. With the falling out of the FL500s and Fram Ultras, which of these filters should I buy for the truck:

There's a way to get premium guard filters which is what the carquest ones are in the canada through some other brand which i've seen be discussed in prior threads I can't remember the names of. Don't know it but someone who does will chime in I'm sure.

The Various MFR PG2500EX are almost identical if not exact as the Carquest Premium. .. They are the same filter with different labels on them... You will either receive the Premium Guard PG2500EX , or the Pronto PO2500EX, or Parts Plus PH500EX.

The "various mfr" option lists a PG part number. I've never ordered this option myself though; and believe that there's a chance you could get PG or something else.
I have done this twice. If you read the fine print they can subsitute a couple other numbers - different brands.

For my Nissan's I got a cross to a shorter can. Technically it will work, but its not the 7317 replacement I was expecting.

For my Toyota I received a Pronto (PG clone) which was the right size - so happy with that.

If your ordering something else anyway worth a try.

PartSource carries a filter called OE Plus. It's just a re-branded Premium Guard EX or Carquest Premium. They're very good, and only cost around $11.

The newer Mobil 1 filters made in Vietnam are also basically the same as the PG, but they seem to have more filter media. They're overpriced at Canadian Tire, but at only $13.60, it's what I'd choose from that list.

BTW, where are you ordering these from? Those are some good prices for Canada.
Edit: Just realized it's RockAuto. I'd be a bit wary about cross border shipping with UPS. They like to tack on brokerage fees.

yeah you are right .. for Canada it's safest to just buy from within the country and at $11 Canadian that OE Plus is a decent deal which works out to $8 USD which is cheaper than Rock Auto anyway when you add in shipping and whatever other surprise fee you will get in Canada.

you know which filter you should check out.. it is a full synthetic so naturally it is more expensive than the OE Plus. . The NEW Castrol Synthetic which is $15 at Canadian Tire but that works out to $10 USD which would be a steal here in the USA.. Contracted by GK Industries or "GKI" filters and made in China.
