I think the "trick" in MV ATF is that frictional properties changes or degrades over time and it's not that difficult to approximate a bunch of them in one fluid.

The real 'trick' is that if, or when, the MV fluids do cause a problem it's really difficult if not impossible to prove that any malfunction is due to the fluid.

The real 'trick' is exceeding multiple manufacturers' specs and requirements producing a superior fluid.

This may also hint that AW doesn't require 'thin' ATF. Toyota's WS move might strictly be for Toyota's MPG benefit and more consisent colder weather performance...Did Toyota simply one-up the Aisin requirement for the consumer benefit or for themselves?

Unlike GM, I wonder why Toyota didn't back spec the WS? Not worth [censored] off the consumer telling them the $4 fluid isn't good enough, so spend $6 per quart from now on!
