2016 f150 5.0, oil and filter change using quaker state full syn, motorcraft fl500s filter, after oil and filter change, started the truck and it knocked, ticked and ran rough, turned off truck after a couple minutes as it was not smoothing out, check for leaks none, checked oil level full mark. Replaced oil filter with wix 57502xp, started truck very minor knock and tic and ran smooth. Not sure if some of this glue got threw and into the motor, I will take this filter back to the ford steelership that I bought this from and will send pics to ford. Please let me know what you think of this

I think at the time of production machine/equipment assemblers aren't functioning properly. It could have been corrected by authorized programmers/personnel.

Nevermind

Are the assembly lines pushing the equipment too hard, or did too many experienced personnel retire or get laid off?

Something is amiss in USA manufacturing and its spreading like cancer. When management doesn't care and employees are treated like disposable drones, the product suffers.

We've seen sloppy glue too often. And, that just a tiny sample of the filters out there. Its like winning the lottery over and over. I don't like it.

Looks like someone grabbed it with glue on their hands at the factory. Not good PR or QC but perhaps this filter is the exception rather than the rule.

Mann/Purolator had a bad time with that one! It’ll be interesting to see their response since the filter was cut open & voided their “so-called warranty”…
It's like they don't want us to know as it's just as planned. lol

Only thing Ford has to do with this filter is cashing those sweet Mann royalty/licensing checks. Unfortunately Ford has proven time & again that they don’t really care about their screwed up filters, the bad FL820S ones proved that.

Attempting to read the tea leaves here. So, you installed the topic filter with a diy oil and filter change? Based on the title, one could reasonably infer that excess glue/potting was seen as an ongoing issue with the topic filter application. 'If' that's the case, then somewhat surprised topic filter application chosen for the service.

Be that as it may, possible that potting could have gotten beyond the filter to engine. Seeing as it's on the dirty side it would most likely be in a bypass event, which best information says are rare and of short duration., Possible though.

You can submit a claim to Motorcraft since it's their branded filter. Unless you have proof beyond the filter pics, doubtful it will go anywhere. Also doubt the purchase dealer will provide any recourse, but you can ask. Good luck.

Maybe it’s the “Green New Deal “?

I will be taking this filter back to key west ford dealership, I will demand a new filter which I will not use and cut that one open, I will demand some motor oil for a oil change, hopefully they give oil, I should take samples of the oil and send it to a lab, not sure which lab ? I have heard of black stone lab ? If anyone has any info on oil analysis lab please send me info

I doubt if oil analysis on a 1-2 minute run will tell you a lot, I would save my $ on that. Hopefully your dealer cares more than Ford corp. has in the past, when seemingly every other MC FL820S autopsy was showing torn media-IIRC there was nothing but the sound of crickets then… Mann/Purolator has unfortunately not been much help either.

Looks like some glue in the center tube

I don't where the "glue" pulled from, but normal to see some potting at the bottom of the center tube. It's how the dome endcap is potted/(glued) to the center tube to hold it in place with the media.
