Here's a 3 month 3000 mile filter off my coworkers 2010 Chrysler T&C 3.3 V6. The filter looks great, the oil is black as sin for the mileage, and this was the 16,000 mile jobber filter abuse engine I posted about last May. I did the oil pan gasket and pickup screen O ring, along with a new radiator, water pump, upper and lower radiator hoses, thermostat, serpentine belt and the idler and tensioner pulleys. The engine was a lot cleaner inside than we thought it was going to be. There's definitely still a lot of sludge or something coming out of the oil galleys and lifters because the oil is abnormally dark and dirty in the filter can itself. Shell Rotella T4 15W40 was used and the same filter and oil went back in for this time around. I'd say for a 160,000 mile engine that was neglected most of its life it looks pretty good inside. Timing chain is a bit sloppy, but it runs great anyways. Since I've started taking care of the van oil consumption has been greatly reduced to the point it only used about 1 quart in 3000 miles of mixed driving and mostly city.

Looks good. Nice photos and Thank You for cut and post.

Yes, we saved it. His wife and kids mostly drive it and they definitely can't afford to buy anything else at the moment. This is the 16,000 mile abuse filter that came off the first time I worked on it.

Progress & assessments. Not terrible but not stellar either. Looks like their is some sludge on the crankshaft in the second pic lower left? Glad to hear it's not a complete oil burner yet & should last a bit longer. Great work!

Yeah, it was sort of baked on and didn't want to come off, but that was also a rougher area of the casting as well. This engine used to burn/leak a quart of oil in 600 miles. It leaked a fair amount from the oil pan gasket, and the oil filter housing adapter weeps a little too. I'll change that gasket next time I change the oil on it.

Least he saved the engine. I’d throw a quart or two of HPL EC 30 in and go 2-3k and have a looks see

Or start running Restore and Protect in it.
The first time I worked on this thing I filled the filter full of MMO and the next oil change had a ton of crud come out. I think this is the 5th oil change I've done on it and it's been getting better each time. I filled the filter full of MMO this time too since I had some. The Rotella seems to be doing a good job cleaning by itself though. I might switch him off to M1 Euro 0W40 next time, I've been running that oil in my van and it does great with it.

The 3.3L engine is a great engine no VVT or crazy overhead cams.
Definitely simple to work on for a modern front wheel drive vehicle. The water pump was a bit tight, but I got it done without much fuss. I had to take the MAPP gas torch to all the bolts to get them to come out though. Never seen an engine so easy to get the oil pan off and back on while in the vehicle either.

I have yet to change the water pump on Mom's 05, Voyager. I do need to change the spiral clock on the steering, very common problem.

It's not too bad. Just remove the motor mount and there's a fair amount of room. I did it all from the top but honestly if you remove the bottom plastic cover it's probably easier to do some of it from underneath. This water pump was still good but since it needed a radiator I decided to buy him a water pump as well. The bearing in the pump was just starting to click when it's spun so I'd say it was a good call.

The 90-00 era motors has probably one of the easiest water pumps that I am aware of. Draining and refilling the coolant takes longer then replacing the pump. Especially if the bolts were not heavily rusted.
