No she buys the oil and I change it. My brother changed the oil in her Dodge 300 and according to her never ran right afterwards. 2.7 started leaking badly and he resealed it only to not reset throttle body relearn and burned up transmission. She traded it in for Impala which I have been main one working on it.Is she the one physically dumping in Pennzoil? If not throw something else in there.
In this case I'd suggest a high mileage oil and even consider bumping up a grade. Is it worth the conversation to say hey let's try a different brand, explain the benefits if it works...No she buys the oil and I change it. Yeah I'd just take what she buys and throw something else in there.Hoo boy...fun situation there.
Have her buy the next higher grade. (And include her on the brand loyalty thread)
Of course if she's reasonable, show her this thread and she might consider another brand. While I understand the sentimentality of using the same oil Dad did, the evidence points towards a consistent oil-related issue across different vehicle manufacturers.
Sounds like progress. Good job.I talked her into at least PCV from dealer after New Year. Oil level is dropping and has turned dark which this car was always lightly colored after 5k but now at 2k it is very dark. I will work on getting her to go Valvoline Maxlife synthetic on next change. She has agreed at least to let me use Rotella Gas Truck 5w30 for top off that I got for a little over a 1.00 a qt. Gaining
