Okay I have a 2024 silverado 6.6 l8t gasser. Have been running Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30. 5k oil changes. After about 3000 to 3500 miles i have noticed 1/3 to 1/2 quart oil usage. I have seen some guys on truck forums say they switched to Pennzoil platinum 5w30 and their oil usage pretty much stopped or almost stopped. Any opinions on why this could happen? Would it be okay to switch over to Pennzoil when I change at 20k?

Certain engines or conditions can affect oils differently. Even within the M1 lineup different oils excel at different things like shear stability, extended drains, cleanliness etc. Sometimes you need to find out what works for you. It may be different than what others are experiencing.

That amount of consumption is very minor and I wouldn't be concerned with it. Since it's under warranty, you could have your dealer look at it but I think they will tell you it is in a normal range of consumption.

Most of my cars used Mobil 1 oils without any issues. My Chrysler minivan, however, would use Mobil 1 at a rate of a few quarts per oil change (5-6000 miles). I switched to Castrol Edge and instantly cut the oil usage in half. Try a different oil and you may see a difference.
