Another MMO thread from an unbeliever

Thanks for the reply. After reading so many Internet stories about the MPG bump with MMO, I was disappointed that my 1999 Lexus GS400 was not included. However, I'll take the smoother idle any day.

I'm surprised that you didn't noticed an MPG penalty going from a 5w30 to a 5W-40. In that same car I went from a 0w30 to a 0W-40 and noticed about a 1.5 MPG drop, which is significant for a V8, which already gets poor mileage.

I did notice a couple of days ago that the vehicle does shake at idle with the AC running. Since adding MMO, it has stopped shaking with just normal air blowing and when no air is blowing, and so I am happy with the improvement.

I agree with you completely, I'll keep using the MMO based on the idle improvements. At my dosage; 1 quart will treat 96 gallons. This comes out to under 20 cents per fillup, I can live with that. In regards to the 5w40, I've never noticed much difference in mpg using various grades. With the 5w40, the Corolla hasn't lost any power that I can tell and mpg is still normal. Maybe some cars are more sensitive than others.

I suppose the best way to test this would be to drive a nice long route back to back; one run with 5w30 and one with 5w40.

Not sure about the 9th gen but the 10th gen was spec'd internationally to take a 40wt oil right in the manual. They are essentially the same engine other than yours is a single vvti.
