My Jeep benefits dramatically from MMO in the gas. I would not imagine putting gas in it without MMO at this point.

We've had several other vehicles that it made no difference in, so after trying it I discontinued MMO in them, there was no apparent gain.

I just experimented with it in our new KIA. Mpg actually went down. So it doesn't like it at all.

Doesn't surprise me, the KIA is a very new modern engine design, introduced by Hyundai, the 3.5 Lamda II V-6, in just 2010. My Jeep on the other hand has an engine that although upgraded along the way, it essentially dates back to the 60's. It's not much more than a glorified tractor engine. It LOVES the stuff ha ha. I think it's the UCL properties it takes so kindly to.

Different strokes for different folks... and engines.

I like your explaniations of each engine!
My vehicles are the same way

Our older '80 Firebird FORMULA V8/4bbl loves the stuff.
Our new(er) V-Tech engines(Lexus 3.0L V6/Nissan 2.5L 4cyl) notice NOTHING at best. If 2001/2004 can be called new(er)!
At the worst, the Lexus will throw a CEL just about anytime a FSC or MMO is put in "even" per/directions

Ha, funny, my Jeep throws a constant CEL if I DON'T get enough MMO in it! At least 4 oz per 10 gallons or so and it's happy.

I tried MMO at 4 oz per 10 gallons in E430 once some years ago, the performance suffered within a mile after I added it and filled up the tank. After another 2-3 filled up without MMO the engine was back to normal.

Mazda responds okay to it. little more mpg
Chrysler "could not care less". (yeah, I realize that I just anthromorphized my wagon

) Then again it doesn't really do anything on Redline SI-1 or Techron either. Just don't try to feed it anything less than 93 octane if you want to push that boost gauge needle to the right at all. But there is no mpg benefit or penalty to running MMO or anything else.

My Acura lost about 3 mpg on the hwy with MMO mixed in at 3~3.5 oz per 10 gallons. A couple of tanks of top tier premium later hwy mpg was right where it used to be. It did make the car noticeably smoother during idle. The mpg drop however isnt worth it for me. So for now its back to Techron/Redline before every oil change.

I also just use Redline before an oil change these days. However, a 3mpg drop with 3-3.5oz? That's a considerable difference, could there be anything else? I've always found MMO to not really effect my mpg much(also use 3oz/10gallons). I don't use it all of the time though. I have a consistent drive right now, a 56 mile daily commute mostly highway. I think I'll test this out with and without MMO and report back. Currently have SI-1 in the tank though so it will have to wait. I've been averaging 34-36mpg on this route so far. I'll try two tanks with MMO and two without, while trying to be consistent with my driving habits.

I also agree about the idle, MMO seems to "smooth" it out.

I agree. It's tough to understand how 1 ounce of additive mixed into 2.5 gallons of fuel can affect fuel consumption to that degree. I would tend to believe the fuel itself the culprit more so than the mmo.
My hemi gets better mileage with 8 ounces of mmo mixed into 25 gallons of fuel.
I've even gone so far as to mix up an acetone/tc-w3/mmo/golden drops/Eco fuel saver mix. That mix has gone into 3 tanks of fuel now.
I also added mos2 to the oil since I lost 3 mpg on the highway not using t the past 2 oci.
My hemi is again getting 20-22 mpg highway. With nothing in oil and fuel I cannot get better than 17mpg highway,so I will carry on this additive path.

Typically these loss of fuel economy threads surface during the winter months, although there might be a few exceptions. Every year my fuel economy drops in the winter and improves again in the spring and summer. I blame the gas and the colder temps.

Well, the observation was made during a single trip of over 95% hwy altogether. Total miles we 1600+ . I started out with MMO in my tank. First fill up I got 26.9 mpg ( cruise at 75 mph ). Second tank I got 27.8 mpg. I stopped using MMO the next fill up onwards. Next tank of gas, with a 2 hr idle in traffic jam thrown in, came out 29 mpg. The tank after that got me back in 30s like it used to be.

Take it for what its worth .......
I know I am not using MMO in my gas tank. Nothing against the product, and was it not for the mpg loss, I would definitely continue using it. I liked how the engine ran with MMO in the fuel.

Did you try using a little less?

Likely closer to the truth[

Interesting. Was it the same gas from the same station each time. If so and the only change was adding mmo then a person can certainly deduce that the mmo was the cause of the loss of fuel economy however if there was more than that variable changed then its tough to pinpoint cause.

Good point, just the amount of gas left in the hose, when the pump clicks to stop during the full up or rounding up to the nearest dollar can effect mpg, positively or negatively. But I'd rather not get into a long debate discussing that possibility. If I was certain it reduced mpg I'd weigh the positives to the negatives, and either continue using the product or stop. In the end its whatever makes you happy.

I thought that I'd give an update once I am the OP. I have continued to use a low dosage of MMO for the past six fill ups and the slight vibration when at a stop light has not returned at all. I have just enough MMO for one more tank and then I intend to not use any unless the shaking returns. I will update this thread if the vibration returns. I definitely didn't get an MMG bump like so many claim on the web

As I said I would do, I've been testing MMO in the Corolla to see if it effects mpg at all. The dosage has been ~1oz/3 gallons. Been using this dosage for 1500+ miles now. Honestly, mpg has stayed within the "normal" range for this car; with an all time high on this route of 37.85mpg two tanks ago. So in the Corolla, MMO at 1oz/3 gallons does not reduce mpg whatsoever. I also switched to a 5w40 from a 5w30 early into the testing and noticed no drop in mpg either.

As an aside, MMO has made the idle noticeably better. I will continue to use it in the Corolla.

How can MMO do this?

Smoother would be a more appropriate word to use. How? I'm not 100% certain other than board members mentioning UCL properties. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable on the composition can chime in.

A smoother idle is noticed more in older engines than newer engines, at least in my experience. I believe a UCL, be it MMO or TCW3 makes for a better ring seal, which can make the idle smoother in many instances.
