Some friends have invited me to ride along on they're groups annual 'polar bear' new years day ride. They typically ride a stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is only about an hour away, and loop around into Va and ride the backroads back to Greensboro, NC while stopping along the way for lunch. We'll probably ride about 200 miles. The weather forecast is for partly cloudy skies and a 52 degree temperature for the high, though the Parkway is typically 5 to 10 degrees cooler than where I live which is an hour away. They normally have about 30 to 40 bikes along for the ride. It will give me a chance to try out my new Gerbing electric vest I bought on sale last June. I'm looking forward to it, but as New years day approaches, if the chance of precipitation is above 20% then I'm out! Happy new year!

Me too, but here in the Midwest we have to deal with salt on the roads...even on the occasional days we get during the winter when it's warm enough to ride, I still don't ride because of the salt...I'm not having that get stuff get on my bike...corrosion city!

The lowest I will ride is right around freezing as I dont have any electric gear in the late fall before the snow and salt flies. 50-60F is my favorite temps to ride in. Might sound crazy to some but riding a warm sportbike its just about perfect. Wish I could ride all year long but riding season is never long enough in the Midwest. We have some polar rides in wisconsin on New years day and most people use snowmobile gear as the temps are usually well below freezing.
30-40 bikes doesn't sound too bad.
I used to attend the annual Polar Bear ride, where I'm from. There would be several thousand bikes, and lots of inept riding.
Eventually I got tired of watching the poor riding. And after narrowly being hit by some inept riders, I quit attending the ride.

Crazy as it sounds; we use to ride Pikes Peak on New Years' day. The winner was the guy that got the furthest up the peak.
And no there ain't enough clothes to keep you warm.

Sounds awesome! Makes me jealous, as my bike is sitting in the garage with the broken fairings from the deer strike stripped off and looking more naked than a naked bike. Just cosmetic stuff though.

Well Ranger I must admit that some years I could have had some "antifreeze" on board before starting the run. Ah to be young and ??stupid?? again.
