Why does Amsoil recommend to dump their motor oil once a year no matter how few miles are on it? Oil in question is their Series 2000 weights.

Thanks for knowlegeable replys Gents.

There will probably be some significant fuel/moisture in the oil, TBN depletion, etc. It's to cover them against folks that would try to 25k mile OCI with a UOA. You also would have folks drive 5k miles a year and only change the oil every 5 years.
If you only drive short mileage per year but always get the oil up to temperature good, etc. you can probably go longer than a year. There are some UOAs on here of more than 1 year & still ok.

You could put the EaO full flow, EaO by-pass, and EaA air filter on the car and register for the Tri-Guard program and with yearly oil analysis.....Amsoil will continue to guarantee the oil for as long as the oil comes back good....2 years, 5 years, 10 years?????? Could one of the Amsoil sponsers verify if I am correct and improve on my memory of the program?

Vehicle is a 03 Tacoma, well maintained, with 30K miles and only sees about 3K miles per year. Been running 0W30 and change the NAPA Gold filter per OEM Spec. Other then a UOA, is there any reason I can't run the oil to the 1.5 year mark?

Thanks for insights Gents.

My personal belief is that if you do a year oil analysis and it comes back with the statement (good for continued use) You do just that....keep it in service. Pablo, what would Amsoils take be on this?

Also Craig, there are a few 2 year OCI oil Analysis in the past 6 months that show a full synthetic can do a 2 year OCI easily! Think about ATF in transmissions for years and years. No issues....I would do a 2 year OCI with your oil and not loose a minute of sleep.

Yep, my mom's UOA was one of those! 2 years and 7600 miles, with lots of short trips in there too, and the UOA came back showing the oil could've gone longer.

Could it be that oil filters are in question? Not designed to be in service for a long time, say at least a year if not more? Just food for thought.

Rat407, the celluose/paper filters could be in question, however the synthetic filters now avaliable don't have issues with dedagration. The Amsoil Eao full flow is a 25K filter and the Eao bypass is a 50K filter. Other manufactures are offering synthetic or fleece filters and this trend will continue.

I believe the tri-gard program has slightly changed, I went looking on the Amsoil site but could not find the same pdf. I believe it is now an oil analysis every 12,500/6 months instead of 25,000 miles/1 year, due to the higher stress from modern emission systems. I will search more, if I can find the article again I'll post it.

Alright, that was fast, I just found the handout for it, http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g254.pdf. For gas engines, first analysis is between 1,000-6,000 miles, 2nd analysis is at 25,000 miles/1 year, and after that it is every 12,500 miles/6 months. Diesels are the same except the 2nd analysis is at 12,500 miles/6 months instead of 25,000 miles/1 year.
