No, no they aren't. They use PAO and ester.

The list above is garbage. Not even worth discussing.

Can someone link to one of the base oil irrelevance threads please?

You were spot on.

+2. Garbage is an understatement.

I can't believe I went and looked at the original thread where this list came from. In addition to the garbage in the list he advises people not to buy their oil at Wal-Mart because it is/may be a different formula.

They do this with other products, and I suspect they may do this with engine oil. The label is specifically made for walmart.

The reason I suspect this is due to the price difference per quart when buying individual quarts and when buying the 5-gallon jugs. The individual quarts are ~9 per quart and the 5-quart jug is $27. That's a difference of ~40% comparing $45 for 5 individual quarts or $27 for a 5-quart jug. I have a hard time chalking that up to just "buying power." I won't say anything for sure until I get some oil testing analysis done on both oils, but if you happen to buy an oil like Pennzoil Ultra at Walmart and it doesn't perform to spec, you were warned.

I think the scariest thing in that mess the guy started are the people thanking him and swallowing it hook line and sinker. THAT is the way internet rumors and myths get started.

Reading that thread is painful. He's pulled some info from bitog. Let's hope he comes over and sees us laughing at the absurdity of his thread.

Another amsoil dealer. This is sad, amsoil is a great oil and does not need to be marketed through lies and misinformation. This is the second or third time in so many days. This brings credibility issues to the product and to the responsible dealers. Amsoil needs to police this because it is getting out of hand.

Well I see Sonny in Hollister called him out. Someone else should and ask him to post his list here.

I skimmed it - I mean some of his junk isn't complete lies, and much of it is just his asinine opinion, I would need to read the whole thread to see if he violates any Amsoil policy, which I'm NOT going to do!

This thread confirms why I stopped coming to this forum. Bashing, bashing, and more bashing. Your member joining and responding for the sole purpose of making himself look like an idiot confirmed that yet again. Amazing. Calling me out on what is or isn't a group 3 oil while conveniently ignoring the discussion that led to me moving posts around while forgetting to update the titles. What a crime. I'm surprised he didn't notice that the last update was posted in the thread as 12/17/13 yet the "last updated" date automated by AutoGuide.com was last month. Being a little absent-minded comes with working 4 jobs and raising a 4 month old kid. Most people point out the error instead of creating an entire thread about it.

I will not name names, but I sincerely loathe people who will write someone off entirely due to them being an AMSOIL dealer. Again, this is why I stopped coming here. People will find any reason they can to "pwn" you on the interwebs, and that includes attempting to discredit you with personal attacks instead of facts. I have yet to see any in this thread, and your "representative" did a fine job if I may say so myself.

Pablo, it is ironic because my first AMSOIL purchase was from you. Remmeber? 2 quarts of Synchromesh for a Cruze ECO MT?

Among other sources of testing, most of my information comes from the following:

http://www.pqiamerica.com/March2013PCMO/Marchsyntheticsallfinal.html

Most if not all of the group 3 hydrocracked oils out there will struggle to hit a NOACK volatility of below 10, most likely due to their need for higher levels of pour point depressants and viscosity index additives. Of course, none of you bothered to read the actual discussion, or the fact that I have repeatedly recommended non-AMSOIL products across all of CruzeTalk in my 10,000+ posts there.

Or we can go with their poor thermal oxidization test results. Take your pick. If the former doesn't bother you, certainly the latter will, especially with an oil "advertised" for 15k mile use.

Also, PP is GTL now. Even the pre-GTL PP was the same as QSUD, and of course QSUD may also be GTL now.

M1 0w20, 0w30, and 0w40 are also a step better than other varieties of M1. Same goes for Castrol's 0w30.

Do you have a link by any chance?

Really? Those three are the same despite testing completely differently?

I'm sure you expected me to waltz in and be quite pleased that you are "calling out" my supposed misinformation with...what was that? Actual misinformation...

Oh is THAT why there are threads upon threads on CruzeTalk of me pushing Pennzoil Ultra, Pennzoil Platinum, and Quaker State Ultimate. Because I desperately need to diss Mobil and sell more product. Yep, you nailed it.

Yep.
He came over and saw us laughing.
You've gotta admit your list is laughable at best. Pennzoil platinum coming in under qsud yet they are almost identical oils.
Any comment there?
And to add my own disclaimer I hate Mobil 1 and everyone here knows it but to put it as a tier 3 oil,and the only tier 3 oil is a total joke.
M1 0w-40 is one of the most certified oils on earth with more performance engine approvals than any other oil,so do these oem's know their oil is a tier 3 product.
I read most of that thread and you sir are a shill, completely and totally.
I'm a fan of amsoil. I like the products and used them exclusively for years until cost became an issue for me.
I feel you are doing the company a dis-service. The oil sells itself in that it's a quality product, without your stupid list.
Thankfully there are professionals such as Pablo selling the stuff because if it was only shills pushing it the company would bankrupt and all these negative comments would be more than just opinion.

Yeah you probably did. Not sure why you'd test that to begin with. You know, after I noted at least a few times in that thread that the 4-ball wear test is of questionable relevance to modern engines and that of more importance is using an oil that performs well across the board.

Queue more "zomg he quoted 4-ball wear tests nooooob" comments that didn't bother to read the entire thread.

Pretty sure you didn't use my ZO when you signed up to become a dealer. But that's beside the point. I've got no problem with some of the stuff you posted - I just look at such a list and it screams amateur hour at best. And no problem with Amsoil ranking high on your list, but warning people away from other oils in such a way is not cool at all dude. Also, I do agree some here look for any reason at all to hate Amsoil and I mean the silliest of reasons. Making such a list doesn't help. Stick with positives. Let the newbies make cheeseball lists.

The specs are rather different, but close enough to where I'll just move PP up to the tier 1. If it wasn't made clear to you yet, those were MY recommendations to MY community.

You must have magical powers because you read my mind and understood exactly what constituted a Tier 1, 2, or 3. Yep, you must be God. No, actually you just speculated, and failed to realize that all of these oils were a comparison of 5W-30 weight oils (unless otherwise noted) specifically for the Chevrolet Cruze (the vast majority of which run off of a 1.4L Turbo engine that is rather hard on the oil) and are NOT applicable to any other vehicles.

What made you think I created that list to sell AMSOIL? If I wanted to sell AMSOIL, I'd do so in my own vendor section of the forum way toward the bottom, not in the Powertrain section where I discussed the merits of several options.

This went from annoying to laughable. So much speculation, so many assumptions, and that would be all well and good if people at least requested a shred of clarification.

No, it wasn't your ZO number. In fact, it wasn't anyone's ZO because I wasn't even aware that AMSOIL requires you to be placed under a dealer in the first place. Heck, I didn't even know what dealer sponsorship was in the first place. I bought oil from you because Sciphi recommended so. When I signed up as a dealer, I went straight to AMSOIL.com and registered, then was randomly placed under a dealer which, while being appreciative of my business, has been rather useless in mentoring me. But that's all long gone by now.

AMSOIL ranks high on the list because the list is alphabetical. Would you like me to jumble it for you? I can put AMSOIL at the bottom of each tier.

There are many ways for people to spend their money, and then there is some testing data that elevates some oils above others. In the interest of getting the most "bang for the buck," I have placed those I recommend the most in tiers I recommend the most, and the data is out there to back it up. I will acknowledge one error, however. PP is good enough to be a Tier 1 by *my* standards, so I will update that.

As noted earlier, the Cruze 1.4L Turbo is especially hard on oil, and the list is relevant only to owners of Cruzes, and only to 5W-30 weight oils unless otherwise specified. I have on problem recommending against oils that display glaring problems. Royal Purple comes to mind. I do have analysis results that show it shearing from a 30 weight to a 20 weight within 5k miles. Our oil life monitors regularly take us to 10k miles. I also have reports of Mobil 1 EP leaving residue.

It is worth noting that I do not recommend against any of the oils in any of the tiers; simply that I if the members of my community have other options available, there are oils that test better for the same money.

Now if you'd like to discuss why I do not recommend Mobil 1 EP, Castrol Edge, and Royal Purple for the Cruze 1.4L Turbo, I would be more than happy to explain the reasoning behind it.
