i change oil week ago and used for the first time amzoil's eao 11 and i was very disapointed with the start up piston slap..i put back on the fl820s motorcraft and that all went away...no more eao's for me

In a properly running engine, the oil filter shouldn't make a difference in sound, PSI, flow....blah blah blah... which seems to mentioned every time someone complains about a filter. I find that the real world shows otherwise.

Find the filter that works/sounds the best for you. I have an issue with certain brands and PN's. And, its not the 1st time someone complained about the EAO.

Piston slap is related to an oil filter?

What kind of car? engine? year? mileage? How is the filter mounted?

Did you save the EaO?

Yes I have read that in another application the EaO has made some more noise, (Ford I think) but in MANY more applications the EaO has made the engine much more quiet. I mean INSTANT quiet. I'm not sure what to say, or think, but I agree with Greaser undummy, some cars are finicky with some filters so it will be nice to know which one or two are finicky with the EaO.

hi paul, i agree fords are funny even wix, not k&n, baldwin, fleetguard, make engine noise at startup..i have decided to try eao 11 again its such a well made filter and i can get them at a high performance shop....i believe it has to do with the bpv at the base end and it is 12psid...amzoil's are at 15psid..who knows!!

Unless you plan on keeping a vehicle a zillion years & a zillion miles, anything more than a Motorcraft, Premium Plus, Supertech or AC Delco is Overspenditure-Unnecessary City... in my opinion.

One (or more) of those filters I listed will keep your engine quiet..... all for no more than $5.

It might just be Ford, and not the filter. Here is what Ford has to say in my Escape's owners manual regarding oil filters...

"Ford production and aftermarket (Motorcraft) oil filters are designed for
added engine protection and long life. If a replacement oil filter is used that does not meet Ford material and design specifications, start-up engine noises or knock may be experienced. It is recommended you use the appropriate Motorcraft oil filter (or another brand meeting Ford specifications) for your engine application."

I've never read anything like this in the owners manual of any other car I owned.

.

I had exactly the opposite experience. While noises with Motorcraft were reduced over other brands, the EAO pretty much eliminated start up noise for my 01, 5.4L F150.

I noticed quieter start-ups on a friend's 2002 5.4 Expedition when we replaced the Amsoil SDF 11 with an EaO 11. EaO 11 for longer oci and Motorcraft 820s for shorter oci are the only 2 oil filters I will use on the Ford modular engines after experiencing startup noise with most other brand filters. I'm noticing other people are having similar experiences.

i just had a EAO103 oil filter completely fail on me.amsoil refunded my money and my lost oil. The rubber seal was found defective in the way it mounts to the oil filter. This was my 3 amsoil oil filter that failed on my in 4-5 years. Needless to say i am Done with amsoil oil filters, I will still use their oil... ps a friend of mine also had their eao103 oil filter and the filter is mounts before the rear tire, and its seal broke and caused oil to leak all over his rear tire! He slid into traffic and could have been killed. So for my motorcycle i need a oil filter thats actually going to keep the oil in my engine! When a oil filter becomes a matter of life and death there is something wrong....
