Yes people do 1 year OCI's on Amsoil OE and XL. They are the same base oil motor oils with XL having a bit better additive package. There are a couple used oil analysis here on OE in particular (which can be had for under $5/qt) that went xx,xxx miles, and looked great.
Used to be the mods here deleted useless abusive posts that didn't answer questions, just showed the trolls for who they are.
Pablo, I had some harsh word for Amsoil. But I have to take my words back. Let's put price of oil to the side (Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 is $12.5 in some stores), but I respect Amsoil for getting some approvals (hopefully they get Euro approvals for all their Euro ine oils).
Anyway, can you confirm here that their base stock is 50% or more PAO? For example, their 5W30 oil that got VW 504.00/507.00 approval looks really good, and 5W40 looks OK (nothing special though) but if it is PAO based then you got my attention.
SO is it 50% or more PAO based or not?

I just do not like HC oils.
I get argument that it is end product that matters, but I also like "true" synthetic. I use Castrol 0W40 in Tiguan because it is PAO based. I use Valvoline in BMW because on paper looks really good and there are no LL-04 oils in 5W40 weight that are PAO based easily available and look good on paper (Motul for example looks weak with HTHS numbers).
Also, Amsoil is very transparent in their numbers. They post NOACK for all Euro oils (Valvoline does the same actually). Mobil 1 and Castrol are hiding that data or HTHS data or whatever. So PAO and good numbers on the paper might make me switch to Amsoil. I would also feel better helping smaller company.
Let's make this clear that you are not talking about XL (thread subject). And ALL motor oils are hydrocarbon oils.
Amsoil does not divulge their formulas for some of the reasons you list, ditto for Exxon and Valvoline and Castrol. The SS line is PAO/Ester blend. Are they greater than 50% PAO? Some are, I'm pretty sure. The Euro oils vary, my GUESS is that by going by PRICE, The HIGH SAPS Euro 5W-40 may not be all PAO/ester base - but for the price, it's an exceptional oil.
