Never thought oil made a difference in engine noises. Been using Mobil 1 in the vette of course. Amsoil in everything else I own. Finally said to heck with Mobil when I was ordering oil and ordered Amsoil XL 5w30 for the vette. Darn if not cold and hot its quieter. The little mechanical noises you hear in any engine is to me notably subdued with the Amsoil Xl over the Mobil 1.

ASM had exactly the opposite effect in my Jeep, which is one of the reasons why I stopped using it. Go figure.

Well good for you, keep using it. Great lube. All of the "top tier" lubes are great. Splitting hairs if you ask me so use what you prefer because it does not make a lick of difference the longer I have been apart of the BITOG family. Just use a major brand that you prefer and try to get it on sale whenever possible.

I've said it many times. Mobil 1 has made every engine I ever put it in more noisy. I know it's a top notch product and I doubt that it translates to more wear however when my engine wasn't noisy before, but is with a different oil I will notice.
Mobil users like the product the use and that's fine. I'm just happy to have a choice.
My Harley is very sensitive to oil. The top end is loud with Mobil and amsoil. Rp and motul keep it pretty quiet though, and I ran Pennzoil Conventional 20w50 auto oil for break in and I never heard a single tap from the top end.
We all have our favorites. I've decided that this new year instead of passively aggressively taking shots at others choices I'm going to just be happy that we can choose, and agree to disagree, happily.

chubbs1 I use to think that there couldn't be a hairs worth of difference until this experience. I've pondered for a month if I was imagining it. I wasn't. I used a Iridium fine wire spark plug in my Dodge Hemi. Idle was smoother after and fuel mileage peaked at a all time high. The factory plug I pulled still looked good and gap was good. But the 'fine wire' plug did make a difference. I found other post here and there with same comments. Same with the difference in swapping from Mobil 1 to Amsoil Xl. Minor difference but none the less a difference.

All my engines are fairly quiet and I've never noticed any difference with various oils. Performance on the other hand from my butt dyno... But that's a different subject.

That said, I like using Amsoil products. They give me that warm fuzzy feeling we all seek. If only I could get it at a cheaper price, I'd continue to use it but the cheap oil I've stashed from recent rebates and clearance sales are calling my name as soon as I finish using up the remaining few cases of Amsoil that I have felt.

Not always. 5 qts of Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter on sale now at Pep Boys for $29.99. This is the second month in a row for this deal. No PC fee, no shipping, pretty tough to beat. There are similar deals several times a year on Mobil 1.

But we all have our favorites, the OP is reporting lower noise with Amsoil. Kind of a no brainer for him.

Even at Walmart ?

Down here in the land of high cost of living, Mobil 1 at Walmart is around $25 5-qt jug and $6.xx in quart bottle, Mobil 1 Extended Performance is a little more.

M1 and other synthetic oil such as PP, PU ... at PB, AZ ... are more expensive at around $8.xx or $9.xx a quart.

The truth is I'd be willing to bet no one on Bitog is paying full retail for oil, oil change specials are going on all the time. If Mobil 1 is causing excess noise for the OP, switching to PP, PU, or anything else for that matter would be very easy too. In the case of the OP, his results were exactly the opposite of mine. If I were him and had good results with Amsoil like he is I'd stick with it too.
