Hi I am new here and I tried to search but didn't see anything about it. I have a place by me that does Amsoil xl-7500 oil changes for 39.95. (37.95 if you bring your own filter) So my question would be is the xl-7500 good oil? I know its prob. nothing like the signature series but would it be a better choice then say mobil 1 or the like? Thanks for the help!

Hm, why not buy there group 4 oil and skip there XL series for about a very small increase.

IMO the XL is the darling of the Amsoil line. This oil got me into extended drains(extended for me anyways). I can now safely go 7500 miles and sleep well at night. Which reminds me, I need to order a case of the 5w20.

First let us give you a BITOG

XL is darn good group III synthetic oil. Seeing that it costs the outfit that is offering the $39.99 oil change over $1,000 (tax/shipping included) for a 55 gallon drum of it I'd say it's a pretty good deal if you don't like changing your own oil. So far the UOA's we have seen here using XL are looking just as good as any over the counter premium synthetic out there. One question though was that up to 5 quarts for that price??

It's a great product for an alternative to the quik lube 3m/3k myth model. It allows those who would never break out of the prison to liberate themselves.

It's the same for the DIY type. 6 months just fits so many people it's not even funny. It's not for everyone (and especially Bill in Utah

) ..but your average consumer can surely get value added from it.

Gary the XL is kind of like the sink in the movie "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest"...you let all our iffy lube followers out there get a quart in their hands and the next thing you know they are off the ranch and onto extended drains :-)!

XL is a gateway drug!

Thanks for the great respons! As to a post above, yes it is for up to 5 qts. and a filter...although i will probably use oem filters. I am not new to longer drain intervals, I just didn't know how this oil compared to others. I was using Motul in my Impreza but i had to get rid of it and now drive an Elantra. So is this too good of a deal for under 40 bucks to justify using mobil 1...b/c I believe it is a level 4 oil as opposed to a 3? I will most likely be doing 5000 mile changes...Hyundai recommends 7500 or 3750 for severe driving, which i will be doing. Thanks again!

Guess I'm too cheap to *care* for my engines so that is why I've never run it according to Gary. (even though I've run ASL in it and run Amsoil in every other box (transmissions, transfer cases and diffs) in both of my cars...

In a 5000-7,500 mile OCI (or really any OCI) I would prefer XL over Mobil 1.

Take care, bill

Relax, Bill ..you're an official "character of distinction" on BITOG. You're now open to a playful poke now and then.

It's kinda like celebrity or "public figure" status in the media

I'm running XL-7500 right now in my 93 Trooper. It seems like a high quality oil. I normally run the Amsoil flagship oil, but I'm doing a second dose of Auto Rx.

I like it.

For that price, what oil filters does the place use? Seems like a decent deal for those that don't want to change the oil themselves.

My boss has the company vehicles done in a quick lube with XL-7500. At 1200 miles a week, it saves a fair bit of downtime and expense.

The guys there are really good, I watch them work and they are very diligent, and if the place used better filters I would be even happier.

Such as?

I've heard Wix filters are very good, filtering down to around 10 microns or so.

For that price your getting a bargain and yes it's a good oil. There are three tire/repair shops here that charges $79.99 oil changes with the Amsoil XL.

I forget what kind of filters, he said it was in between a fram type filter and an amsoil/k&n filter. So not the best but not the worst. I just figure ill use OEM.

Oh and 79.99 for an oil change is nuts!

If they used Wix or Purolator, I would be happy. Instead, they use Pennzoil-branded Fram.
