I plan to run the 0w30 SSO after I do the amsoil engine flush and finish this 5k OCI, I will be running it in all seasons after that, it will be almost winter by the time I start using it, and the car will be at college being used for short 5 or so mile trips 2 or 3 times a week, and a 300 mile round trip home every few weeks, it burns some oil, about a quart every 3k (probably a lot less after the flush) so knowing my circumstances how long of an OCI can I run?

I will be running it with either a pureone PL14459 or the Amsoil EA15K20-EA

What make/model vehicle is it?

What oil will you be adding? If you have to add a qt every 3-4k you can go quite a while I would say 15k with that driving regimen. Use a purolator oil filter and change it every 5k or so. 3 Pure1's are the same price as 1 Amsoil filter. You have the Amsoil guarantee so you will be fine. 15k should be doable if your engine hasn't been neglected and oil changes have been performed on a regular basis.

How many miles are on the vehicle?

Nevr mind I see your signature. 15k easy

The vehicle it will be used on is it listed in my signature

I will probably just cough up the 15 bucks for the Amsoil filter that's guaranteed to 15k just for peace of mind and to avoid the hassle of changing a filter that's in a super inconvenient spot and losing 1/4 a quart of oil each time.

I do drive it harder than the average joe, but with it being 100% up on maintenance it doesn't mind

[censored], now I feel dumb... Its basically the same price to do 3 5k dino OCI's with filter and make up oil as it is to buy 7qts of SSO and an amsoil filter...

Well that is the only problem with a boutique oil in a vehicle consuming oil, you never know though, consumption could go down.

The consumption has only been going down since I have done a MMO piston soak and a seafoam run, but I hear the Amsoil flush is the end all of sticky rings and sludge/varnish. As far as I can see in the oil cap I have a lot of varnish, and the car is mainly hwy miles, he left all of the oil change receipts in the glove box.. it had 175k miles just 5 months before I bought it, and he owned it for a year so he accumulated a lot of hwy miles on dino oil..

Well I like what the swap from Honda MTF's dino to the Amsoil synthetic MTF did, it will probably be a similar story. I will probably do a 1 year OCI because I dont know if I will even reach 15k in one year, generally I barely do 10k in a year.

There really is no need for such expensive oil in an old Honda motor.

Just run whatever name brand dino is on sale for $18 and change it every 6 months, or a name brand synthetic that's on sale and go a year.

Its an old car with spaceship mileage, everything is already lose, an expensive oil isn't going to "fix" it, just drain your wallet.

I wouldn't go to nuts trying to clean it either, that's just asking for trouble on a 200k mile engine. Don't be to shocked if it pops on you. Sometimes old motors don't like to be cleaned, a little varnish isn't going to hurt anything.

I really don't care for your point of view, I prefer to treat my cars right, and at 200k with as much highway miles as this car has seen I have no doubt about it making 250k on anything, I just would rather spend 50-60 dollars on 1 high quality oil change that lasts 10k then 2-3 dino ones that will cost the same if not more, which = less time under the car and more time for studying or working.

And if spending 10-20 dollars more a year in oil makes this Honda last even 6 months longer when it is on its last leg it will save me over 600 dollars on the full coverage insurance of another car, because I am a "young driver".

Brenden, I like your setup, especially going with Amsoil MTF up there in Minnesota. I'm sure you'll like that in the winter time, please share experiences in the other sub-forum!

The summer down south here is much hotter than last year, it's my first summer using Amsoil instead of Honda Genuine MTF. Fingers crossed. Not sure if the old HG is out there anyway, but the new HG II MTF I believe is closer to a mutli-grade 20, but don't quote me on that one. There are a few Amsoil Synchromesh threads floating around with info related to that, as you may know.

On the other hand, if it were me I'd probably go for 1 UOA at 7,500 miles in on the first Amsoil AZO(SSO 0w30), before continued use and go from there. 10,000 should be doable if everything else is up to snuff. I just really believe a UOA is worth it.

Thoughts on oil filter choice: The same P1 you are currently using is a solid product, though I'd shy away from it unless you plan on changing your oil filter out for an interval beyond 7.5k; I'm using the Amsoil filter currently, but cashed in on the Bosch Distance Plus filter rebate deal. I'm stocked for 3 years worth of oil changes on the Civic. PureONE may be capable of 10,000 but it's really not advisable, IMO.

Both of my children had similar situations to yours and I ran the 0W 30 for one year intervals on their cars which amounted to 12-15000 miles a year. In your case,, adding some oil once in a while should easily make the one year interval.

Yeah I figured the Pure one wasn't good to run longer than 7500 miles, and I do plan on getting a UOA its a small investment that will pay itself off if I pin point when to change the oil.

And I had Amsoil in my Civic before, but the transmission was shot so it didn't "wow" me like it should have, but it works really well even after 2 days with it in only.

I saw you get the Amsoil combo and shoot for 1 year. It's a good idea to mix a long distance oil with a long distance oil filter to go hand in hand.

If you can get Amsoil for PC pricing, go for it but @ retail, it would honestly be smarter and easier on your wallet to go with Mobil 1 EP and an M1 oil filter bought on sale. I have done back to back UOA on M1 vs SSO and they are near identical in performance.

Just my opinion.

P.s. I also have Amsoil MTF in my Civic Si's 6 speed transmission and its much smoother then the oem fluid... In the same category with Redline, Royal Purple and GM's Syncromesh transmission fluid which I also tried at one point or another.

Prefered Customer pricing. This is where you can buy directly from Amsoil for wholesale prices.

Nah I don't have that but my local dealer is still on the prices before the price jump, he wanted 9 somethin for a quart of SSO
