Have a Craftsman tractor with a 26hp Kohler 120 hrs.Currently using Rotella 10w30.OCI @ around 25hrs. Looking at Amsoil small engine oil.Or even their Diesel 10w30 oil.Any comments or sugestions appreciated.Thanks.

Wow, oil changes every 25 hours? Pretty sure you could go a lot longer than that even on BOTB conventional oil. If you want inexpensive oil, see whatever 15w40 is on sale that week - a $10 jug should get you a couple oil changes.
Personally, I'd use whatever synthetic oil is on sale and change it every 250 hours minimum - Shell Rotella T 5w40 is hard to beat for value. Keep it topped up and change it once a year right before winter.
Edit: I did a quick search and came up with a manual for the Craftsman DGS 6500 and indeed it lists oil changes every 25 hours with filter changes every other... and before storage. With 10W30 above freezing and 5w30 below freezing... API SG/SL, capacity of 58 ounces (not quite 2 quarts). Wow. Seems extraordinarily excessive to me. I still stand by my Rotella T Synthetic 5w40 recommendation and 250 hour OCI... but I don't own this equipment.

ACD is a bit better priced, but only comes in gallons. Both are great oils.

I prefer the gallon jugs.I have a rough 4 acres,and I haul a lot of rocks debris ect.I guess I should be happy with the Shell No oil consumption problems or smoking.

I'm thinking with the ACD you could start extending the OCI a bit, I'm not sure about 250 hours at this point, but 100 seems very doable.

I have found Amsoil ASE to be my favorite...love the ZDP levels!

I have a 25hp Kohler Courage Pro on a lawnmower with approx. 145 hrs. I use Rotella 10w30 CJ4 with changes at 25-35 hours. Consumes no oil seems to do a great job. Seems to me the Rotella is similar to the Kohler 10w30 motor oil which I think is a plus. But I keep considering using Amsoil ASE, ASD. Question to me is would I get longer engine life of the Rotella?

I know this is a bit off topic, but I use Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel Truck 5w40 in my JD tractor with Kawasaki engine. It works perfectly and UOA are stellar. Plenty of ZDDP and shear stability for air cooled operation. It called for conventional 10w30 oil, however, it was not able to maintain oil pressure on hot days with conventional oil.
As I have posted here before, here in South Florida, my hard working air cooled engines require good oil. I actually had 2 Honda water pump engines fail due to oil related issues. Also, MANY generator operators had engines fail due to oil related issues. Air cooled engines are tough on oil here in Florida. Especially when run 24/7.
I have switched to Mobil 1 15w50 in my pumps and generators with perfect results. I have persuaded some RV guys that were having probs with conventional oils to use the syn with good results.

Well I had an itch that had to be scratched.I ordered 3 quarts of the Amsoil small engine,10w30-30 today.Always wanted to try it since I heard about it in the mid 90's.Not sure on the OCI yet.I found a local dealer he said he figures it would go atleast twice the hours I change it now.He wasn't to thrilled that I planned to use a Napa Gold filter however.He's a AMSOIL-Purolator lover.I thought Wix made a good filter.Something else to ponder now.

The peace of mind my Ea0-34 Amsoil oil filter gives me on my 20 HP Briggs V-Twin is something I would not trade away. I use Amsoil ASE 10w30/30 as well..it's the best product of it's kind around...esecially now that automobile oil has low ZDDP...you NEED this stuff with it's high 1200 ppm of zinc...

My Kohler uses a NAPA Gold 1348 ,EAO57 is the Amsoil replacement.It's $16.Is really that good? I wonder why on the Amsoil website there is a foot note to this filter "EAO57 filters are not recommended for Toyota applications"?Thanks

Also can I get some more opinions on OCI.I'm doing it @ 25 hours wuth the Rotella 10w30/Napa Gold filter.I'm thinking 35-40 hours.I run GTX in my car.I try to Change around 4-5000 miles.Not a 3000 mile person.

I run Amsoil Small Engine in everything we own. JD Tractor, 2 Lawn mowers, Snow blower and Backup Power Generator. It's great stuff and seems to stay clean forever. We do a lot of hours on the JD over the summer and if holds up 3 times as long as other oils we have used. YRMV
