Amsoil recommendation for SRT-4

I am thinking of switching from 5w30 to Mobil 1 to Amsoil in my SRT-4. The car is driven 3-5k a year and I plan on taking it to the occasional autocross. I am not too concerned with the price given that the car will only have its oil changed once or twice a year. Also, the local Napa sells the ASL for the same as the Mobile 1.

Relevant info:
Stock turbo 14 PSI
6250 redline
Mopar Stage 1 PCM
Turbo back exhaust
240-250 hp at the wheels

Which oil would work the best?
Signature series 0w30 (SSO)
100% synthetic 5w30 (ASL)
Euro 5w40 (AFL)

to BITOG.

I would use the SSO 0W-30.

Definately SSO. Once per year, twice if multiple autocrossings.

How much is your Napa selling the ASL for?

Amsoil Euro 5w40 would be my first choice because you have a turbo, then SSO. I think you need the slightly thicker 5w40 because it will help with the Turbo better IMO.

I haven't been let down by them and think all their products are superb!

I would go with the Amsoil 5W-40 as well, I have had the best UOA (from "off the shelf" oil) with M1 5W-40 TDT in my SRT-4.

Dominator is a racing oil, and not really for everyday use... I would stick to the 5w40 or SSO IMO... Dominator is a very good oil though...

On second thought, I'd go with that!!!

That's it! I'm moving to Washington! They got Ranger four banger 4x4's for sale and outstanding Amsoil salesman!

I'd use the 5w40 for extra viscosity when things heat up. Cars like you mention are usual driven for fun when they are driven. That means higher oil temps. I'd even consider something even thicker depending on the driving being done.

Peace!

I am in WA, have an SRT4, and use ASL. From my TSO UOA, I dont think the 5w40 is needed for a stock turbo/stock boost car. Our turbo's are coolant and oil cooled. I say ASL or SSO once a year.

I dont auto X, but when I go to the roadcourse I throw in some Redline 10w40 and then run the oil out a few thousand miles afterwards.

I actually don't think the marginally higher viscosity of the Euro 5w-40 AFL will give any better service than SSO. AFL is very low SAPS oil, and while the SSO is medium SAPS, I believe the proprietary additives in SSO will protect better than AFL. Especially in WA.

A step higher in vis would have me recommending DEO 5W-40, but this is not necessary and the turbo will spool up faster with SSO.

Thanks for the welcome and replies everyone. I think I am leaning towards the SSO.

7.99/quart. They want 8.49/quart for the M1. Go figure.

Actually, not that far from where you are in Duvall. I also like to drive Snoqualmie Valley Rd when I feel like taking a drive.

3k miles into my second SSO OCI and the only thing that I don't like about it is that I've already added 3/4 quart.

During my first OCI last summer I only added 1 qt. in 8,000 miles. That's with a new turbo, towing, off-roading, 100F+ temps and daily short trips.

Of course 1 qt/1k miles is within manufacture specs but I thought that consumption would decrease instead of increase. I know everyone usually says that it takes 2-3 OCI's for consumption to go down but it seems to be going the opposite way for me.

I'm still going to reiterate that performance oriented driving like Auto Cross could easily warranty having a thicker oil reguardless of what any UOA says anywhere.

My trucks pull and haul all day. If you looked at their UOA's, you'd think I was putting bacon grease in there with a shot of SLOB.

Extreme conditions are extreme conditions and a really hot 40 weight will be the same viscosity as a normally hot 30 weight.

Coolant cooled turbo or not, just take this into consideration. Many Auto Cross courses don't let you get up to high enough speeds to put a heavy flow of air on to the radiator.

Your mileage may vary...

I have run the ASL 5w30 and the old 0w-30 in my 2.4 PT GT Stg 1.

Has about 85K mile on it.

I have also run the same oils in my other Shelby Dodges for last 15 years. I dont think you want the 5w-40.

Run the AMsoil oil filter too.

A good upgrade is the MTF in the transaxle. I run it in the G288 getrag in PT and in my older A555 and A568 getrags in the Daytonas and Shadow. Much better fluid than the ATF or 5w30 oil speced in them.
