buster Thanks for this information. I have real bad news for the Racing Director of Amsoil. In 2004 Roush Racing will be using Pennzoil in all of their cars. PERIOD!

The equation seems to be like this

NASCAR + motor oil = Mystery

Not doubting anyone, just that you hear all the stories from reputable sources and they all say something different.

You almost have to go to the AMSOIL production warehouse, watch it get packaged and literally follow it to the NASCAR garage and see it get poured into the car personally, and then that better be the car that starts the Daytona 500 and not a back up to make one believe they use the oil. Just amazing how much is hush hush for the sake of the winning edge and MONEY.

Notice that he said dealers (not Amsoil Corporate) are working with race teams. Thus, hearsay.

This is the kind of corporate BS response that keeps getting Amsoil in hot water with the general public.

Why don't they publish this in the Newsletter and see who gets the flack? Hey John, get back on you snowmobile, that's where the Amsoil racing effort lies!

Buster,

The best oils I've found are Delvac 1, the Series 3000, 5w30 and the lower viscosity Redline products,ie their 5w30 and 10w30. The Synergyn 3w-30 also looks very promising for $5.50/qt and I think that Royal Purple is outstanding in some applications ....

I'm sure the Mobil 1R will provide outstanding wear protection, but if I can't consistently run it 15,000-20,000 miles between changes then I don't consider it to be equal to the oils I've mentioned. The wear rates with several of the top tier synlubes are already so good that wear is no longer the major factor in determining engine life ....At this point it's really how long the seals/gaskets last and not the mechanical parts that will make you get a new car, or rebuild the engine after 12-15 years. At least, that has been my personal experience ....

I'm sure Amsoil could come out with an even better oil right now for $10.00/qt, but would anybody buy it? The drain intervals my customers run are already well beyond what many people on this site are comfortable with. So coming out with a 50,000 mile, change interval oil is just silly, and you can always install one of their bypass filter kits and do that today ....

Sorry about the off-color remark, perhaps I could have used a more PG-13 analogy

But I think you got the point.

I take the 5th, but I think more people are using Amsoil for racing than we get credit for. I for one have sponsored a couple low level racing teams. One guy (team) used it sucessfully in a series with a "mini-V8", but the jockohomo wouldn't use the free Amsoil decals, even though he got the free lube by the pallet (And you KNOW Series 2000 ain't cheap)!! What a **** -off! Nothing in it for me other than wasted money, if I can't even get the advertising! His sponorship was pulled.

Speaking of off color, sexual eye candy, have you guys seen Charlie's Angels 2 (Full Throttle)? Other than the fact that I have this thing for Lucy Liu, and the plot is a joke, there's a scene with some supercross type event and this rider comes up on Lucy (trying to score) and he has full Amsoil leathers on (with AMSOIL blazed across his chest). Naturally Lucy rebuffs him, due I'm sure to the whole MLM scheme.

The Unser family, Bobby, Al and Al Jr, have used Amsoil for over twenty years....

Cale Yarboroughs racing team was using the Series 2000, 0w30 eight years ago to run qualifying laps in Nascar racing....

Oil sponsors who pay millions of dollars to sponsor Winston Cup racers are very sensitive to comments that these cars may be in fact using competitive oils, including Amsoil and Mobil 1. Sponsorship is pure advertising and that is far more important that the products that are actually used. The main goal is to win and to give the impression your oil was in the engine at the time.

It's just business ....

Here is my take. Amsoil is in the Extended drain market, not racing. I think Amsoil wants you to think that there oils are used for racing but the reality is most large oil companies like Mobil, Pennzoil, Castrol etc. are capable of making superior high end oils. These cars run top of the line oils. When you look at Amsoil's formulations, they are clearly not racing oils. They have no Moly, hardly any Boron. As I've said a hundred times, they only focus on the base stock, not a superior additive package. Amsoil has told me this. They clearly said to me that Redline makes an excellent product for that market...being racing. Amsoil's selling point is 25k mile drains. S2k is a compromise between performance and extended drain. How they come up with 35k miles is beyond me but I'm sure many get suckered into it. They are however, HUGE in snowmobile and othe small racing circles.

Pennzoil does make one hell of an oil. There conventional oils are top shelf. I'm sure as Johnny has stated, there racing oils are phenomenal. I am turned off by 99% of the Amsoil guys I run into (not Tooslick/Pablo). They spout more BS then anyone I've ever come across. Amsoil makes great extended drain lubes and the S2k is a good performance lube but I really don't think it's that commonly used especially when oils like Redline and other high end oils like the Pennzoil Grp V and IV oils are out there.

Tooslick, you've said your self it's not rocket science when trying to make a great oil, it's cost. I'm sure a NASCAR car with Castrol, Mobil 1, 76, even Sunoco have a very special blend made for racing. Pennzoil's strategy of marketing a very good Grp III is appealing and a good idea.

Pablo, Lucy is very nice.

Buster, you sort of contradict yourself....race oils really aren't that much about the additive package, more the base oil.

Race oils are about winning, period.
Sponsoring is about money, period.

As for my movie comment, it was more about the obvious Amsoil advertising, than Lucy. They wouldn't have let Pennz, Castrol, Mobil, etc...have such prominence without pay$$$

I am? How can racing oils not be concerned with the additive package?
dunno.gif

Let me add to this. Amsoil makes excellent lubes, but when you get into the high end racing oils, they are all very good and at that point Amsoil's advantage is much lower. Thats the point.

Will they also be adding Slick 50 to the racing engine... If retail packaging is any indication, Pennzoil believes this product can enhance their lubricants in consumer applications. Does Pennzoil market Slick 50 to race teams? Also, did they choose Pennnzoil based on the merits of the oil, or did Pennzoil provide a financial stipend to the racing team?

Please read this thread: Pennzoil packaged with Slick 50-Why?
See Johnny's response. One of many he's made against Slick 50.I've seen Slick 50 packaged with Quaker State too.
Johnny will have to answer the racing question,I haven't a clue.

Mark

The answer to the racing question is both. Pennzoil and Jack Roush's relationship go back a long way when he use to be involved in drag racing, and Pennzoil and Ford Motor Company have had a long lasting relationship. Of course we are giving money. Do you think these NASCAR teams could run the programs they do just off of their winnings. Go to www.pennzoil.com and I believe there is a section on the left announcing the sponsorship. There you can read what Jack Roush has to say and get a good look at the Busch car Mark Martin is going to race. And NO Pennzoil does not need Slick 50 added to it.

Roush could be using Pennzoil synthetics in all the engines, along with Amsoil S2000 gear lube and S2000 racing grease. The transmission fluid is no doubt a low vis, synthetic Synchromesh fluid like Redline MTL. So everybody could in fact be correct ....

Synthetic lubes are used everywhere in Winston Cup racing cars. I'm sure even the PS fluid is synthetic ....

Jim from Amsoil did tell me that S2k 0w30 has been used in Winston Cup years ago. He also said those cars are giant billboards and don't believe that what is inside is what is on the car.
rolleyes.gif
According to him, the new Mobil 1 R is just a heavy additized 0w-30. So, it could therefore be similar to S2k. A local direct jobber told me this as well.
