Amsoil question?

Folks, a little over a year ago I did a back to back UOA of amsoil series 2000, and series 3000 HDD. While my wear metals did not change much, the only thing that alarmed me was oxidation, and nitration almost doubling with the series 3000 over the 2000. Could anyone explain why this could possibly happen. Also both oils thickened into the 40wt range (0w30 was 15.01 cst, 5w30 was 13.56 cst) with only 6 months, and 9000 miles on the oil with the same driving habits. Vehicle was a 1999 silverado 5.3 engine.

Probably with some assurance I can say the increased oxidation and nitration numbers are an artifact of the laboratory. HDD has an interesting ester mix with the PAO and will show a relatively high straight oxidation number. This is assuming nothing changed in your engine and it was in perfect running order, and no cleaning was going on with the HDD, which is also quite likely. Also earlier formulas of TSO did regularly thicken into 40 range - the oil was designed not to shear.
 
Thanks pablo, I called the technical service center at Amsoil when I saw these results, and was told that those numbers (oxidation/nitration) could possibly be due to the fact that the series 3000 is probably not the "best" choice for a gasoline engine, even though it is dual rated diesel/gas. I guess they were implying that there were several more better oil choices for a gas engine. I read somewhere that this series 3000/HDD is the very same oil that the founder Mr. Amatuzio himself runs in his gas powered suburban. I might try an uoa in the near future again with my new vehicle.

They also said TSO was the best and I don't think it ever was.

Al Sr. was said to use HDD. He must run SSO now! In a way I can see why they said that, if the HDD is cleaning old oil stuff out, it could show a higher oxidation number. A gasoline engine only oil may not clean residuals as aggressively.
