Could anyone explain why this could possibly happen. Also both oils thickened into the 40wt range (0w30 was 15.01 cst, 5w30 was 13.56 cst) with only 6 months, and 9000 miles on the oil with the same driving habits. Vehicle was a 1999 silverado 5.3 engine.
Probably with some assurance I can say the increased oxidation and nitration numbers are an artifact of the laboratory. HDD has an interesting ester mix with the PAO and will show a relatively high straight oxidation number. This is assuming nothing changed in your engine and it was in perfect running order, and no cleaning was going on with the HDD, which is also quite likely. Also earlier formulas of TSO did regularly thicken into 40 range - the oil was designed not to shear.
