Amsoil question for Pablo, Michael, Don, & Tim

Or anyone else that might be an expert on Amsoil 2-cycle oil.

I just purchased a new Toro PowerMax 6000 snowblower with their R-Tek 2-cycle engine. Naturally they recommend their 2-cycle oil mixed at 50:1.

I happen to have some Amsoil Saber Professional 100:1 Pre-Mix Oil. I am really old school and am very hesitant to mix this at 100:1.

Okay, now you can advise me.

Do you have an 2 cycle specs for your engine? The Saber Professional lists ISO-L-EGD, JASO FD, API TC .

100:1 is no problem. But to help you feel more comfortable, you can run it at 50:1 or 80:1 (8 oz. per 5 U.S. gallons). If it seems to rich, you can ween it down to 100:1.
 
Johnny - Looks like you are getting hammered with the storm. Seems like you got your new snowblower just in time. Amsoil shut down their corporate office in Superior, WI, because of the weather. I spoke to a long time Amsoil dealer and he doesn't remember that happening before. I've heard reports of high winds, snow and 20 foot drifts.
 
This storm is why I bought this snowblower. I have a small single stage blower and that's great for 2" to 4" of fluffy snow, but this darn storm was a doosie. We got 12" which by itself is not all that bad, but when you add the fact is was wet snow, and it came down when we were having 30 mph winds, well you have a mess. The drifts in my driveway were anywhere from 3' to 6', depending on what part of the driveway you were in. The new blower works great and cleaned it up in no time.

Oh, according to the manual I can use anything from TCW3 to TC rated 2-cycle oil. Since it is aircooled I prefer the TC rated oils.
 
Your correct, why did I ask you. There are no snow experts in Sugar Land, TX.

But I did spend my first 25 years in Central Illinois. My dad never bought a snowblower with 5 kids at home. When the last one left, he bought one...
 
First two tanks of gas/oil should be a little richer oil wise(break in). Then you can thin out the oil mix.
Extra spark plugs on hand is a good idea.
 
Someone can correct me, but I believe that the R-Tek is essentially the same engine as the DuraForce 2-cycle in the last generation 2-cycle Lawn-Boys. Toro owns Lawn-Boy. I've ran Saber Pro at 80:1 with excellent performance in my Lawn-Boy. It also suggested 50:1.
 
However you choose to mix it (I'd split the difference at 80:1 also). Shake the can up good each time you refill, the 100:1 oil has a bad reputation for coming out of dilution fairly quickly.
 
i thought that the 100:1 was a non-diluted oil, unlike the injector oils, which need to be thinner to pump through the injector system. I guess I never noticed it separating since I've only used the 1 gallon mix blister pak.
 
Strange - as much as I hang on the board I just noticed this thread. 100:1 will work in your snowblower. Especially when blowing snow

(next year) - however 80:1 is better for the brain, and probably better for break-in (may need to study that one).

I never heard of the 100:1 coming out of solution. But it's always a good practice to mix very well and mix every time you pour.
 
80:1 for break in, then go 100:1 after the first 2-3 tanks. I would make up a gallon or 2 at 80:1 then after that go with the 100:1.

I know it's kind of late but better late than never.
 
It's never to late. Glad you and Pablo jumped in. Heck, it's March in Wisconsin. It might rain tomorrow and snow 4" the next day. I would be willing to bet I get to blow snow again before summer gets here.
