Righto...i use Amsoil "Oils" and swear by them.

I have also been using Amsoil "Oil Filters" ... BUT there seems to be a LOT of negativity towards the oil filters.
What issues are of biggest concern with the filters ? ( ignoring price ! )

I am considering changing to the NEW Penrite Oil filters just released here in Aus.

Thanks..

Amsoil doesn't make filters, if I'm not mistaken. They are buying regular filters from some manufacturer and having their branding put on them (like many companies do). You're paying for their name.

Yeah , i am aware of that ...but what are the issues with the filters that they are selling under their brand ?

So basically....paying the premium is a complete waste of time ?

If you have no problems, then do not listen to the Negative Stuff!

It might be what we talk about here that may not really matter!

If you are using Amsoil Oil's the Oil Filter does not matter!

Amsoil has Champion Labs making them. I would assume they suffer from the same leaf spring ruffle defects like we see posted here. There is chance oil is constantly bypassed as a result. If you use a cartridge then no problem.

Yeah, it's Champion Labs and their ruffled leaf spring issue on many of the filters they make, regardless of branding.

Yes, there have been some threads showing pretty ruffled leaf springs on Amsoil filters. Also some threads showing some pretty badly formed louvers. Typical Champ Lab manufacturing quality issues.

They are having problems with ruffles leaf springs.

Current news & everything else we've seen do you think things will improve?
Trying to stay positive but... 😄

Depends on if these filter manufactures care to listen to customer feedback on their manufacturing quality and fix the issues. A few years ago, they all knew how to stamp out smooth leaf springs, but something happened since then, and they can't seem to do it correctly anymore. And louver forming quality is always a roulette wheel issue. As usual, inspect louvers before use.

This picture was one of many I took of a new Amsoil filter. Before ever removing the leaf spring/pressure relief valve from the filter media and using a flashlight, light was coming out all around where the two parts met. The remaining two Amsoil filters I had on the shelf are in the garage's trash can. The last OCI, I continued using AMSOIL Signature Series, but a different filter brand. I chose Pentius, but I'm pretty sure Premium Guard and MicroGard Select use the same construction methods. Double-check these last two are the correct brand and models should you go that route.

Pentius gets filters from South Korea and China (at least for sale in the US). I understand they are having quality issues with those made in China. Buyer beware.

If we take that wide vue & "Half glass full" approach we know that Fram really was a top filter company brand for their TG's & Ultra lines. They obviously had to hear folks trash them on OCOD etc. That made them change eventually. Take Purolator, The Boss line was established to make up for the "Tearolator" feedback. I'm just starting to think it may be the beginning of the end for filters being made by Champ labs now. Seeing how widespread it is at the manufacturing level nearly all of their products are affected. Something so simple but I get it, they have bigger problems now.

Well, you know the big changes that happened at the head departments (changing hands). :cautious:

With PGI type filters, that we just can't help but to marvel for consistency, who needs these filters anymore anyways. 😄

This is a good angle IMO. Get their big buyer partners like Amsoil to put pressure on them. (y)
If I was having Champ Labs (or any other filter maker) making filters for a company I was in charge of they would be fixing the issue or losing the contract. Just like M+H supposedly lost the Mobil 1 filters to Highline Warren and why NAPA switched oil filter supplier.
