Yesterday I put Amsoil "mtf" in my manual transmission. I was mistaken yesterday when I said that the shifting is noticeably improved - it's UNBELIEVABLY SMOOTH!!! The more I drive the car,the more noticeable the improvement is.

Any application specific MT fluid is going to work better than a "peanutbutter" gear lube fluid.

Have you tried one of the Specialty Formulations fluids for comparison?

FWIW, With any MT fluid, the more you drive the more time the FM compounds have to work into the synchros and performance usually does improve with mileage.

No Molakule,I have not tried your Specialty Formulations fluids for comparison...but I would like too. Which Specialty Formulation product do you recommend? Honestly,no hype, but driving with this Amsoil "mtf" in the manual transmission is like driving a totally different car. For example, when trying to shift into reverse with the Honda oem "mtf",I would usually have to forward shift into fist then back into reverse. Not with the Amsoil "mtf". Also,down-shifting (albeit,at high speed) from third into second, used to take a little bit of "persuasian" (spelling correct?)- not anymore.

I too have found downshifts, especially in cooler weather, to be problematic with OEM and OTC fluids, since they do not, in general, have the correct viscosity nor do they have the proper FM's.

Our MTL-P is speced for Hondas.

Never had any problems with going to reverse from any gear as long as vehicle is not moving, since there is no synchronization for reverse.

Molakule, can you tell me how much it would cost to ship 12 quarts of your MTL-P to Ottawa, ontario,Canada - all inclusive. Thanks.

What's this free amsoil shipping that I am hearing about? Does it apply automatically or do I have to fill out some crazy rebate forms?

Whats insane is people making comments about things they do not know anything about! How would you know if you haven't tested the stuff yourself? Do the math and the numbers don't lie. I don't think a 0.6 litre per 100 kilometer (not 6.0 litres) decrease in fuel CONSUMPTION is so unbelievable. It's significant for sure. Driving with a very dirty air filter would probably have the opposite effect. I drove for 4 hours total (228 miles) and saved the equivelant gas quantity of 5.5 small cans of coca-cola. Some people operate on the "don't confuse me with the facts,I've got my mind made up" theory.

Some people just believe using synthetic fluids will not improve MPG. There is no changing their minds with facts. Bottom line is: probably the juice you had in there was rather more viscous than the MTF.

As for my free shipping in the USA, there are no crazy forms to fill out. Just buy direct from Amsoil using my dealer #. When you get your order, send me a copy of the included receipt and you get a check within a matter of a few days.

Honda OEM MTF is a thicker fluid: Visc@100=11.26 cst. Amsoil MTF Visc@100=9.6.

Free shipping?? That makes it very reasonable.

I may have to try that Amsoil MTF next

I was planning on switching at 30K but maybe I will befor winter. Thats if I dont hit 30K by then.
I mentioned in another thread for someone to mix to he MTG/MTF to get closer to the 75W85 for Nissan.
This isn't a problem right??

My fuel economy figures are very accurate. Why? Because they are ALWAYS measured on the SAME,virtually uninterupted stretch of highway from my house in Ottawa to Dorval airport in Montreal (366 kms or 229 miles round trip). I've been checking my fuel economy every single round trip I take to my base in montreal for 290,000 kms/182,000 miles with the same car, same type of gas. It has ALWAYS (for this time of year) consumed 20 litres per round trip. Do the math: If 366 kms takes 20 litres to refill (I refill right to "full" tank) this translates into a "burn" of 5.5 litres per 100 kms travelled. My car has a 50 litre tank. Therefore, 50 litre tank divided by 5.5= 9. 9 times 100= 900 kms using Honda oem fluid. The Amsoil mtf resulted in a "burn" of 18 litres round trip. This translates into fuel economy of 4.9 litres per 100 kms travelled. 50 litre tank divided by 4.9= 10. 10 times 100=1000 kms range. If I was previously getting 900 kms per tank and am now getting 1000 kms -guess what? I'm getting an extra 100 kms per tank. The only BS I notice is somebodies math other than mine! I will check it again (as I do normally) just to reconfirm.

I just did another mileage check and it's the pretty much the same as before... 5.0 litres per 100 kilometers travelled. The entire 363 km/229 mile round trip (with a/c on) consumed only 18.610 litres. The previous exact same trip consumes 17.993 4.9 litres/100 kms). The average consumption= 4.95. This 2001 Honda civic now has a highway mileage range (a/c on,doing 100 kms/hour or 63 mph) of 1000 kilometers or 625 miles on a 50 litre tank/13.212 US gallons.

Airbus,

what is the mileage without the air on? I've always wondered how much air cut into the gas mileage.
