To answer the original post, it's not a bad idea. If your car likes a 10W-40, go with it. Please post analysis at 5-7.5K miles.

A lot of assumptions on his part. Not a very credible source of information IMO if all he can do is assume information. He probably just assumes the oils are the same since he hasn't bothered to look at the oil's spec sheets.
