I bought a bunch of VR&P for the cars and picked up two each AMSOIL oil filters. How is their quality now a days? I plan on using them with the Restore & Protect oil. Thank You,

It pains me to say they’ve lost their way. I have a few posts about their cartridge style filters having adhesive on their clean side. I still have some old stock of the canister filters (including the 15k09) that I’m going to use. But I am not going to buy more until they remedy the issues I have seen. I have told them multiple times via email I want them to succeed, but am not going to buy their products until they fix whatever is making them lose the premium product caliber.

That's sad to hear. I have the canister style coming to me. I'm only running 5K mile intervals with the filters. They used to be a solid, dependable filter above average quality.

Agreed. That’s why I used them for so long! I thought the filter I had with the adhesive was a one off. Unfortunately not.

Sloppy workmanship is apparent throughout the oil filter industry. It's tricky when trying to narrow down a solid reliable filter that can handle 10K mile plus filtration when someone like myself drives 120 miles a day 95% highway, no stopping commutes. My miles are not harsh at all and I can run 7K to 10K miles with no worries. I just need an oil filter that can fulfill my needs. AMSOIL still carries a reputable reputation for durability. What a shame things are like today.

Well, some of these will have the "Ripple" leaf spring that lets unfiltered oil through. Didn't use to be a problem before the buyout but now look. Pass for now.

Premium guard seems to be one of the darlings of oil filtration right now. I am all for good companies to be recognized for superior products.

Unfortunately right now I cannot say that is amsoil. Again, I take no pleasure with that statement and I hope they find a supplier that can manufacture products befitting their well earned prior reputation.

I don't know, the Amsoil filter I just used collected quite a bit of junk.
I’ve got a couple c&p’s from a few weeks ago. One filter media size was larger than the same model number cousin despite being the same exact exterior dimensions. One collected quite a bit of carbon. The other did a decent job too. With that said, I cannot say the filters did not have the same well documented leaf spring issues regardless of media collection.

I also would say that any company with consistent issues who doubles down after being notified is not thinking strategically about their brand. That’s my take anyways.

AMSOIL oil filter are made by a 3rd party contractor. I am not aware of AMSOIL having a filter manufactiring plant. So their filters are as good as their contractor makes them. In theory they should be top notch, "built to AMSOIL's spec". A few years back they had a filter that went on RAM 1500 trucks that was too restrictive and caused issues. I got Donaldson -> WIX/Purolator -> FRAM, sometimes Baldwin when I'm in a pinch. I would say Donaldson is top tier today, but maybe I'm wrong. I'm no expert.

As noted, Amsoil Synthetic, Royal Purple and Fram FE 'spin on' filters, the same. The seal area issues have been thoroughly covered this sub forum. If your opinion is no big deal, then you will have no problem with their "quality". In my observation, most here including myself, don't feel that way. More so for a "premium" oil filter.

Haven't been on this forum for well over a year, but read this thread as I've always been interested in Amsoil and have always wanted to try their oil, but I've never been much interested in their filters as I've found the USA made WIX ones fulfill all my needs, and I buy them 3 or 4 dozen at a time so have plenty of stock.

Because I haven't been around here for over a year, did Amsoil get bought out or something? I used to hear such great things about their oil, I have a relative that works in the oil fields of Alberta and they used to rave about how good it was in everything. I'm finally at a position in my life where I actually could buy a case of their oil without it breaking the bank, but from this thread there seems to be an indication something happened with Amsoil in the last few years, a buyout? And if so, even if their filters are **** now, has the quality of their oils suffered??

Amsoil doesn't actually make their own oil filters, as they are contracted out to a major filter maker. Currently, they seem to be made by Champion Labs. Don't know how their filter supplier history has changed over the years. Maybe @Pablo might know.

Edit - Wix filters are also sold through Amsoil, and those are now made by Mann-Hummel.

I used to be a HUGE Amsoil/WIX fanboi. Their filters have both gone to sh*t quality given change of ownership (Wix), and poor manufacturing by a subcontractor (Amsoil). These are both objective and empiric experiences I am drawing on to make that prior statement. I used to LOVE anything Amsoil. Unfortunately I cannot speak to the quality of their oils as I told them their QC in filter acceptance has made me question their entire product lineup level of acceptance. As I've said before, I take no pleasure in this sentiment and I hope Amsoil corporate finds their way back to what made them the premier brand they used to be.

Sh*t quality for Amsoil filters may be hyperbolic...maybe just "mid" as the kids say nowadays. Not worth the premium price they charge now vs what they used to provide (value is not there anymore IMO).

Their rebranded filters have no reflection on their oil. Oil filters these days are crap and the shining stars these days are Chinese and Vietnamese made filters unfortunately.

This may be true. When a product is substandard, and it is brought to the attention of the company without redress it speaks to a negative change in the corporate culture. When zero drive for improvement is there, trust is eroded. I no longer trust them given this.

Actions, meet consequence.
