I would just go with the SSO.
Yeah, it costs a bit more, but you only have to service the thing once every 15,000 miles or one year.
I have been thinking of doing this same thing on my Ford Taurus with 147,000 miles. My wife drives to her work then across town to college every night. I have always kept good care of that car, just did a full tune up, and recently finished 2 Auto RX runs.
I am honestly tired of changing oil on that car every 5,000 miles. Which works out to about once every 3 months.
I recently realized that I have driven the Xterra 300 miles in 3 months, as I work from home 3 days a week.
Im thinking that the Taurus will start getting Synthetic and I will put the Xterra back on its 3000 mile Dino interval.
When my Stock of Dino depletes to Zero, I will pick up some Amsoil.
Your Lexus may look like it has some miles, but that engine just finished breaking in. My opinion, but then again I am gradually getting away from "the cheapest oil change" mentality.
