Hey guys,
Just wanted to know what kind of experience everyone has had with this engine flush. My car currently runs conventional oil 5w30 oil with MMO(1 qt replacement), things are going good, I will be switching to the AMSOIL Signature Series 0w30 and wanted to know if this engine flush is any good

Thanks!!

it is possible that this flush can clean out the gunk the is preventing oil leaks and such

i would run inexpensive synthetic like pp to slowly clean out your engine first.

I don't know how many miles are on the car and how often you change your oil but many people use MMO to clean out their engines. If you already do that, I bet your engine is in good shape considering you change your oil every 4-5K on dino.

I wouldn't run the Amsoil unless you are going to go at least 10K before changing it out. I like Calvin's advice of running something like Pennzoil Platinum first. See how your car does on that and if everything is okay, stretch out your OCIs with Amsoil. If you are not interested in long OCIs, save you money and just run a cheaper synthetic.

Hey dsmith41,
the car is a 95 lexus gs300 with 186k. I have done 3 auto rx phases, and now this is the 2nd time using MMO. The oil has always been changed 3k, never going past 3500 miles.

Well it is up to you but I personally wouldn't bother using an expensive synthetic oil like Amsoil in a car with 186K on the clock. Plus, with all the Auto Rx and MMO, the engine should be about as clean as it is going to get. I would just run dino. Maybe even a high mileage dino and call it good.

Wth what you said, there is absolutely no reason to use the Engine Flush. You did plenty already.

There is nothing wrong with the flush. Used it multiple times on multiple vehicles (and using a cheapy filter while flushing too) Amsoil's formula is safe on seals, and wont hurt a thing. It works well at cleaning out dirt. Just follow directions on bottle. Used it in my brothers 00 explorer, and the new filter that i used for flushing got plugged solid. but if you are worried about the "big chunk theory" you can use mmo in the crank case at every oci (like you already were doing), but amsoil is pretty safe and wont hurt a thing. You can't go wrong with it. Use with confidence

But at the same time by the same token you should be fine with what you were doing. I am a staunch believer in both and both do really well!

Sounds like your engine is plenty clean at this point. If anything you could have run the Amsoil flush first to help drain out the previous oil. It won't hurt anything, but no need, really.

Not sure why folks are trying to talk you out of SSO. Use what you want. Heck my last car had 280K, still running Amsoil when I sold it.

If you've been using a qt of MMO my bet is your engine is very clean! I'd make the switch to the SSO and skip the flush. By the second OCI with the SSO your car will be reaping the benefits of the SSO with or without the flush. OTOH had you not used MMO a flush might have been a good idea. JMO

Because learning a little goes a long way to perpetrating false truths and poor understanding.

Pennzoil Platinum is a terrific synthetic product but it IS NOT 100% synthetic like Amsoil's 100% synthetic motor oils, Signature Series and the European Car Formula. I see no reason why AMSOIL Signature Series would provide LESS wear protection than Pennzoil Platinum. From what I can see, Pennzoil Platinum is "worth" it if you care more about saving money and slightly extending your OCIs and less about the ultimate in wear protetction and very long OCIs.

I'm not necessarily trying to talk him out of it, I just don't see the point on a car with so many miles. Even if it is well taken care of, it is nearing the end of its useful lifespan and SSO is expensive. Just run a quality dino at regular intervals or a group III synthetic and neither the car, nor the driver, will even notice a difference.

Advice on the internet is worth what you paid for it.

A Texan Lexus GS300 with 186K, carefully maintained? That thing is still young. gs300tx is looking at another 200K+ with this car, I'm guessing. Seriously.

IMO: TexasLexusMan, AKA gs300tx, if he is interested in long OCI's, should step into premium filtration (i.e. EaO/Fleetguard or bypass filtration) and a premium synthetic (RL, Synpower, AMSOIL Signature Series, Mobil 1, Castrol), with PP/PureOne or similar for 6-8K mi as a transition stage to get used to the idea of a long OCI.

If you are running MMO regularly with your oil you do not need to do the AMsoil engine flush. MMO is a mild flushing agent. So you could skip it and just go right to Amsoil motor oil with no need to flush. In fact if you have been running 1 quart MMO each oil change for any length of time I would think that their is little in your engine to clean out short of ring area maybe.

If you have not already bought the oil I would recomend you try Amsoil Series 3000 HD 5W30.

Thanks guys, great info!

After this oci, it will have 6k in MMO and over 15k in AUTO RX treatments. I haven't had a chance to take off the valve cover but I think it should be clean inside.

So this is what I plan on doing when I switch to SSO amsoil

1)Run the oil for 1yr or 15k whichever comes first

2)Run the Mann 7500 mile filter, change it twice.

Kabooma: I am not too familair with the bypass filtration systems. Could you give me some more information.

JohnBrowning: I went to the amsoil website and could not find the Amsoil Seres 3000, have they discontinued the product?

dsmith41: I see where ur coming from, no point in putting money into a motor that wont last long, but I have seen these motors go 300k on conventional oil changes, so hopefully its not too late to go synthetic.

HDD is under diesel oils: Amsoil HDD link

It's not a bad recommendation, especially for this engine. 1 year or 15K, SSO or HDD will serve you just fine. HDD has a bit higher viscosity and and higher Ca, P and Zn additive package. This however does not always mean lower wear, or cleaner engine. Your choice.

+1!!!

So again, why is his car not a candidate for synthetic oil and extended OCI's?

It's not worn out. It's not leaking oil. I don't get it.

One fellow says "Because learning a little goes a long way to perpetrating false truths and poor understanding." (some big words used a bit incorrectly) And goes on to say how good PP is, but not for extended OCI's. I have nothing against PP, but 15K in this engine might be pushing it. So I still don't get it.

Another fellow says the car is reaching the "the end of its useful lifespan and SSO is expensive." So basically the engine is shot at 186K with dino changed regularly? That sucks. I know that's not what you meant, but the engine has plenty of life left and SSO/HDD changed at 15K/1 year just is not that expensive.

I'm just saying guys, it seems odd that you want to talk someone out of a very legitimate oil choice and OCI format, because maybe you have not tried it or somehow believe it won't work.

Even at 12k+/- year it's just not that expensive. Outside of some specific reason not to, it basically breaks down to how often you want to service the sump. Both of those products have proven to stand up to service that would have most doing 3k/3m.

Hey guys,

If not AMSOIL Signature Series, can anyone reccommend me a 6k OTC synthetic that I can use first and then maybe switch over to SSO ?

Any OTC syn will go 6K for sure. You will definately get your money's worth out of SSO at the interval that you plan. I don't have the cajones to run 15K on any oil, but if I did, I'd be looking at the SSO.

Good luck.
