Amsoil EAO filters drain back valve construction

Don't fret, harrydog. You don't know that your filter is effected. I keep trying to tell everyone that any filter can have issues or defects. Now a design defect like this is very rare ..but, obviously, it can happen. We also only heard that it's a bona fide defect. It could have been the process that formed the ADBV or the material spec. Who knows.

Crapp. I finally convince myself that these filters are worth the extra cost and buy 12 of the EaO20's, and now this.
It's always something to ruin my peace of mind!

You bought 12 EaOs? Wow.. I bought recently 2 wix 51356 and one EaO13 filter. Wix I already know as I used napa gold in the past. EaO is an unknown quantity so I ordered just one. If it works well (I dont see why not) then I can order more... BTW, anyone knows if EaO13 ever got affected?

I talked to Amsoil Tech and they confirmed that both EAO-34 filters leaked at the ADBV.
They tell me they should have some reworked 34s in November range. They are going to reimburse me.

I have an engine that is sensitive to the ADBV needing to seal real well for no start up noise to occur. I will give them another shot when they come out.
I still need to confirm if my Daughters car does the start up noise as well. She has the same motor.

I just need to decide how long to run the Pure 1 and ASM oil?

There has been no general annoucement about the EaO34. I just went and checked and the only recent bulletin on oil filters was this:

EaO47 Oil Filter
Due to an unforeseen high demand for the new EAO47 oil filter, and the subsequent long lead times to catch up on production of that filter, we will be out of them until July 16th, 2007. In the meantime, we are going to have available the WIX 57060 filter for that application, and will stock those in all Product Centers until we have the EAO47 back in stock.

Did they say ALL 34's have this problem, a batch, some??? I will ask.

A Pure one should do 5-10K miles.

This just off the wire from Amsoil:

“This issue is not related to all EaO part numbers. The filters that seem to have issues are the EaO15, 34, and 42, when mounted on vehicles where the filter is mounted horizontal. It is important to note that these filter work perfectly fine when the filter orientation is vertical. AMSOIL is working to resolve this issue, and is anticipating a fix soon.”

I will let you know when I have more information.

My understanding is that they are aware of an issue with the EAO-34.
I still am going to see if it is an issue with my Daughters car.

They sound like they are taking action. That is all I can ask for. I would not be concerned for the other filters unless you notice something amiss.

Like I said this car is sensitive to the ADBV being perfect. I have not noticed any problem on other vehicles with EAO filters.

As far as I know the problem has been resolved. The dates from this thread are June and before. 2007.

Maybe someone can help me with this... I've been using the Amsoil EAO20 filters on my TL for 40K now. As bad as it sounds I've always done the "blow or suck" test on a filter when new to test out the anti-drainback valve. Every quality filter has always stopped the flow of air. Every EAO filter I've had lets air pass through. I haven't been too worried because it mounts low and vertical on the TL. Is this crude "test" worthless. It gets some rather weird looks from people in the auto parts store.

That is an interesting test..... I might try it.

Could be valid.

I was told the EAO-34 would be improved and available in November 07. I was told this in about may 07.
