Hi There - Hope someone can shed some light on what size filters to use with one of these.

I just had my Toyota 1HD-T diesel motor rebuilt and I'm getting ready to put her back in. I'm mainly looking to increase my oil change interval for extended road trips. As well as all the other benefits I've read on the forum here.

My questions:
- whats a general rule of thumb for the size of BP filter to use?
- my engine has a 10 liter capacity - what size of full flow filter would best be suited?
-what would be the most universal size full flow filter to use that I could possibly find a temporary replacement for in a pinch (i.e. third world travel) if I needed to (last resort)
- AMSOIL website lists the 22mm as the biggest adapter for the dual bypass system - but I need a 24mm. Is this something a machinist could fab?

Any help from the board would be much appreciated- thanks guys.

Hmmm.. you may not be able to easily do the dual/combo mount. You may have to settle for the stand alone bypass mount.

If your 24mm stud is actually a nipple insert into the block, then you can probably buy one separately and see if it can be threaded to 3/4-16. That would solve all your solve all your technical problems. If it's part of some cast aluminum piece to allow installation in various chassis, then it might get expensive.

Thanks Gary - Below is the link to a BMK11 install on a 1HD-T which was my motivation to begin with.

In the third picture - you can see what I'm dealing with as far as a screw-on adapter.

I would like to install a dual bypass filter if possible and a preoiler at a later date to help with cold starts.

Do you think fabing an adapter is possible within reason? Also - any thought on what EA filter size to order? Any info much appreciated.

Those Japanese imports maintain that anatomical correctness there (the center bore of the threaded stud). My Mitsubishi had an offset thermostat. I don't know what the reason was for the valve not being centered ..but what do I know

That piece itself can't be machined, but I'm sure that a piece CAN be machined to the correct thread. I don't know what the cost would be. Hope you find a friendly machine shop. It would perhaps be something you could share with the Cruiser community and spread the cost over a few of them since the outfit is going to setup for it.

I still can't quite tell if the filter boss is cast into the block or is a separate adapter bolted to it. If it's cast into the block, then the center stud is a nipple that can be removed (I'm assuming the offset center hole is an installation aid).

You can install as big a bypass filter as you please. Amsoil recommends any of the EaBp filters in a single mount. The EaBp110 would add two quarts to your sump. Oddly, on a Dual Guard (BMK22), they only recommend the EaBP90 in tandem for sumps over 15quarts ..which would add the same 2quarts to the sump.

Going too big can have its liabilities depending on how much you operate the vehicle ...but two quarts added to the standard sump shouldn't effect anything.
