I've been interested in using ASE in my generators (8000 and 2200 watt) and my honda mower and gcv190 engine pressure washer. My only reservation is that the oil does not contain friction modifiers. Is this really something to be concerned about?

Friction modifiers in PCMO's are there mainly to increase mileage so as to qualify as, "Energy Conserving."

In small air-cooled engines your main concern should be the oil's film strength against shear-down of the oil film and its anti-wear capabilities.

So FM's are not needed.

The same goes for run-in oils.

I have been using Amsoil 4stroke ASE or others in the Small Engine oil lineup for years including both applications you list and many more including Zturn mower and AFF Formula 4stroke in snowblowers. Use any in the lineup for any outdoor power equipment application with confidence.
