Amsoil 10/40 mcf (England)

I live in England.

Myself and a couple of mates are thinking of trying AMSOIL MFC 10w40 in our bikes. we have nearly always used Putoline semi synthetic oil. My bikes are a Yamaha Vmax (3,500 miles) and a suzuki Bandit 1200 ( 5,400 miles) As both are well run in now i want to switch to a fully synthetic. The best synthetics available over here are probably Silkolene and Motul. Amsoil oils have just started to appear over here and their claims and test surveys seem very impressive. Prices over here are crazy, both Silkolene and Motul go for Around £8 litre and the best i can get Amsoil with trade discount is about £10 a quart.I don't mind spending more if im getting the best. My oil change intervals have always been 2,000 miles and the bikes only get used in summer. What i want to know is are Amsoil oils as good as people say? Our best is probably Silkolene but i have never seen any comparison done.

The Amsoil will be fine but for a 2000 mile change interval I would go with the less expensive Motul. You'll only be using about 20% of the additive package in the Amsoil in 2000 miles. Yes, Amsoil oils are in the top 3 oils here. (Redline & Mobil1Vtwin are the others).

All good oils but I think your paying a big premium for the low volume boutique oils. What do the majors have too offer in your area? Castrol makes some very good synthetic products in England?

We have castrol, mobil, silkolene, putoline, shell, motul i suppose we have most of the bigger names. The reason i was going to go for amsoil was, after reading many tests and especially the motorcycle oil test run by amsoil it convinced me to spend more. I dont really know if all the hype is to believed. I dont mind spending more if im getting the extra prtection. Maybe im better off switching to full synthetics but buy the slightly cheaper ones i as i always change the oil at 2000 mile intervals. I dont do many miles really and its all summer use so 5 months of the year they are parked up. Im simply after the best all round protection for my bikes especially the bandit as its on tappets and oil/aircooled.

I use the 10/40 mcf in my Gl 1800. I had a 4000 mile run tested and was told I still had a good TBN and the oil was still a 40 wt. Also I could easily run another 1000 miles on the oil. Previous to using the Amsoil, I had ran Castrol ACT-EVO 10/40 and it was wore out at 3000 miles and the TBN was down to a 1. The viscosity was down to a 30 wt. No question as to which oil I'm going to use, because I don't like changing the oil. Both of my test are in the motorcycle used oil anyalasis section.

Just ordered the AMSOIL 10w40 for my bikes amd a couple of mates are going to try it.Its very expensive over here but i got some trade discount. It's a shame we cant get it direct for the right money,im sure it would sell if it was'nt so expensive. When you tell people it retails for £13 a quart they think im mad paying it.
