American Mann filters now black

As I understand it, Mann filters in the US are rebadged Purolator Classics. These are usually White with a yellow and green label.

I just purchased several Mann filters for my 08 Accord and my son's 00 Mitsubishi from Rockauto. Both are made in the USA but are black with grey lettering and look just like their European counterparts. I wonder if this is just cosmetic or have they changed the "guts".
 
If you go to Mann website mann-hummel.com you will see that most, if not all, their spin-on oil filters are black, not white with a yellow and green label as shown on Rockauto.com.

I think Mann decides that matching color is importance, therefore their oil filters are now black, but the inside may not changed.

Just the outside lettering looks like the European counterparts? Or does the baseplate also look like the Euro version which is generally just 4 inlet holes, and it also had/has a grayish color adbv.

Or does the baseplate look like the pic below? If the latter (more likely) then my "guess" is they just got around to a new black paint job with original lettering and dumped the Mann sticker on the white can. If the former then it could be different inside than a Classic inside. Without seeing it, just my speculation here.

Checked the bottom of the black Mann filter. Multiple holes like the Purolator with a black ADBV. I did email Mann to find out what kind of filter material is used.

A brand new Purolator CLASSIC filter!

Seriously if you can try peeling it off to see it the Purolator stamp is on it.

Basically what I figured. They have gradually gotten around to the black paint job and Mann logo/lettering in Fayetteville. As for filter material, while I rarely say the Puro made for filters are the "same as" a Classic or P1, imo the Mann is likely very similar or the same as a Classic. Since they are part owner of Puro, like the Bosch Premium is a P1 clone, the Mann and Classic being the same seems likely. That said, unlike the Bosch Prem. I've seen no efficiency specs on the Mann.

Fwiw, I've looked at the Mann's on RA, but after figuring in shipping costs, not a bargain.

Bought 12 filters. 4 Honda, 4 Lexus, 4 Mitsubishi. With shipping worked out to $3.25 each. Not too bad.

Major, I just bought 12 also and they cost me 2.75 shipped to my door. Quality looks good and 1/2 the price of Wix. Ill see if it was a good buy after I cut it open after 5k.

Buying in quantity can reduce the RA shipping factor, so I thought I'd check what 12 would be in the 7317/14610 equivalent. The ML1008 is $2.53 which is a good price. But then I'd have to add another $1.00 each for shipping to me, even buying 12 at a time. That plus I've yet to see anything that shows the USA made Mann is any different inside than a readily available Puro Classic. So, the savings based on having to buy a dozen filters at a time from RA, not worth it for me with this filter.

Also noticed that the RA more information section shows these filters have a silicone adbv, it's nitrile. It appears RA is using the German made filter and video info for these filters.
 
I found the same thing except it is worth it if I want to buy Wix or ACDelco. A year's supply of Wix oil and air filters for both cars can save me quite a bit, about $4 per oil filter and even more on the air filters however a years supply is about $100. If I decide to go back to Wix or try ACD though, this is definately what I would do.

The Mann filters would save me even more but I could never seem to get them to all ship from the same location. Would definately be willing to try them though.
 
Reading that link, it seems that this applies to a Mann subsidiary that is located in China. It appears that official Mann filters manufactured in China are being copied by local counterfeiters.

All of the boxes I received from Rock Auto do NOT have the Mann holographic logo or other safety measures noted. Hing, does your link apply to American made Mann filters?

The ones I ordered from Bavauto did.......
