Amazon increases the price of Prime nearly 17% to $139 per year

oilBabe probably watches $12/month in streaming content, so the shipping is practically free.

I often opt for later day getting digital media credits.

We probably won't drop it due to the increase. They know they have us :)

We shop for stuff on Amazon and will continue to do so. I refuse to be stuck with the garbage- limited selection available at Walmart and other stores.

Again everything is going up. My property manager called up and asked to raise the rents. I really don't want to but taxes but every else cost of ownership and maintenance going up so I want to stay even.

That's the smallest increase ever on a by-percentage basis. Amazon's Prime price increases are always $20

Originally it was $79, then $99, then $119, now $139. So it was always $20, so as a percentage it always goes down. The first increase from $79 to $99 was a 25% increase!

I deal in semi trailers and just watched an auction today where 100+ trailers were sold. The trailers that were $2-3k 2-4 years ago are now bringing in the $15k range. The trailer I bought today I had a very specific order for and paid double what it would be worth in a normal market and the customer was ecstatic that I found something even though the price is absolutely ridiculous.

Dropped prime in July when my student discount ended.
My wife's college qualified us for 6 or 12 months of free Prime and after that, it was only $59. She graduated a number of months ago so I guess now we'll have to flip to using our daughter's university email.

Honestly theres no real advantage anymore, things do not arrive in 2 days prime anymore IME.
Pffft, first saw it here and there depending on the item but now see it A LOT -- same-day delivery. Scary part is they're offering middle of the night delivery options if you order before ~6pm or so.

Too high, I buy a lot from Amazon but since not in a hurry, that makes it easy to reach $25 cart for free shipping. If they raise the minimum cart value for free shipping back to $35+, that'll cause me to shop more elsewhere.

50 bucks come spring!!!!

Businesses raise prices to help pay for investments in the business. I dont see that as unreasonable, to a point... Theyre adding fleets of vehicles, distribution warehouses everywhere, etc. That all costs money. They are doing this to offer next day (sometimes faster) delivery on all sorts of stuff.

I stream prime music, and sometimes video. So I am not inclined to cancel. The fast shipment on most stuff is nice, but Im not sure it is $139 nice..

Have not ordered anything really expensive from Amazon for a long while. What I do order is lots of stuff in the $8-15 range that has free 1 or 2 day shipping. Even same day on $35+ items. There are now 4 Amazon facilities in the Kansas City metro and things click pretty good. Last year I placed 143 orders. Half were
The free Amazon Prime music is something I use daily. The free selection is adequate enough to make playlists, that I play back thru a Echo Dot into my bedroom stereo for thru the night music.

Not much of a fan of Prime Video, not much of a binge watcher. I watch some old TV series.

Actually I feel it is a good value. Will renew in April. Anyway, it government money I'm spending.
Government does not have money. It's all of ours.

Biggest increase is fuel price and delivery wages. I wouldn't be surprised others will do it as well to cover for the "free" shipping. Maybe the minimum amount qualified for free shipping will go from 25-35 to 50.

Pretty sure I read/heard somewhere that a hike was coming, no real surprise here. Just re-upped end of last year, delivery reliability and convenience has been a noticeable plus. Had several USPS delivery experiences recently that has made Amazon a real contrast in service. And sometimes it's nice to avoid a trip to the store to get an item or three, especially when competitively priced.

Basically, agree with previous comment by member Bud, if all Prime services/benefits worth it to you now, keep/get it. If not, go another way. I've got time to think about, but at this point I'm inclined to stay.

AMZN released earnings earlier this evening and the company had an outstanding quarter and great future outlook.

No surprise on the 17 percent prime increase. Some of us (especially me) are Pavlov dogs when it comes to AMZN. We don't shop around, and AMZN pockets get bigger and bigger.

Amazon is always my last resort to purchase anything, 17% increase is expected as they only raise their price every 4 years. They are by far not the cheapest on everything but a good source to check against because many times they are..
We dont do prime, never will.

I just get the free month subscription whenever they offer it which often extends to two months when I try to cancel. The free or quicker shipping is nice but there is nothing I need so fast that I would pay for Prime.
Yeah, we do that at Christmas time, we have a distribution center not far from us, ALL Amazon deliveries come in Amazon trucks which is amazing so even though we NEVER paid for prime we always get fast deliveries. . (they are still my last resort but in the end price always wins, its just that their prices are not by any means always the lowest as some think, at one time they were)

Everything goes up over time, no surprise here.

Wife seems to think we still benefit, I guess the show we have been watching lately is there. But we might drop Netflix instead.

Everything is going up.

Did we really think the producer would eat the price of inflation vs passing it onto the consumer?

I’ll still use Amazon.

I guess my issue is the membership increase.

AMZN is making more on the item price due to rising prices/ inflation. By raising the Prime membership fee, I sense it may be greed due to lack of competition. I speculate if AMZN kept the membership fee static, with rising prices, AMZN will still be making more gross and net profit per transaction. More so, if AMZN had two to three real competitors, I speculate Prime membership would be $50.

I find Prime video a bait and switch offering. When it came out most media was free. Now, the vast majority of offerings on AMZN Prime video are pay to watch. I have never used Prime audio, and two day shipping.... nice but I am still think it is a bit exploitive action for AMZN to raise prime because they lack competition.

I don't buy enough from Amazon to make prime worthwhile, whether that be $99 or $119 or $139. But what I DO do however is I ALWAYS click on the free shipping option, even when that usually means a substantially slower delivery date. For example, I could get the item tomorrow for $11, or the day after that for $9, or the day after that for $5.... Or a week later for free. I click on Free anyway..... And almost always (like nine times out of ten) it comes early. Often MUCH earlier. In mid-January, I ordered a bicycle part, which was available with free shipping and a delivery date anywhere from Feb. 7 to Feb. 21. Sounds awful, right? I was surprised when I got the item in just two days.... All the way from Japan. An extreme example probably but typical since my items almost always come sooner than originally expected and that is without Prime.

I only buy groceries at retail store, everything else is bought on Amazon with 7 day free shipping.
