Every time I read about something like this it reminds me of how much of a [censored] hole highschool was for me.
When Columbine happened, I was not surprised. High School is a powder keg. Bullying is a huge issue and people can only be pushed so far before they reach their limit. At that limit, who knows what they'll do?
Columbine was a lashing out. This is the other approach. Both are horrific in their own right. The plague of social media, outlets like Facebook, Twitter...etc, they make people, particularly the youth, who are far more uninhibited than older, more conservative folks who don't consider the Internet a part of their existence, accessible to peers and predators. Sometimes those are one in the same, as is the case with bullies.
Having three young kids in school, their exposure to the Internet is something I'm not only aware of, but proactive in their education of what a powerful, and sometimes awful tool it can be. Internet education and a focus on social media is something parents MUST be involved in these days. Not a good thing for those who are far from technically savvy
My question here is where were her parents and why were they not more involved?
