Am i the only one really disliking SUVs?

SUVs that are body on frame like the 4Runner, Suburban, or exclusive like Range Rover, G-Wagon I truly don't mind. Those are REAL SUVs or atleast have a special purpose.

Anything unibody I rather take the sedan equivalent. What's the point in having a higher center of gravity, lower MPG if they can't go off road? This is including high end stuff like the Urus, Cullinan, Bentayga.

Not everyone needs a suburban or range rover to get home in the snow. Thats where the rav4 , crv, cx-3,5,9 etc. fits the bill. Thats the point, they have a higher ground clearance, are awd and get better mileage than a suburban or range rover.

Its a clone car world these days especially in the SUV crowd,,,not much imagination, well maybe in the dashboard which IMHO is a night mare to operate, but if your 12 years old is easy-- why,,because the younger crowd plays video games all day and they are use to it,,,again IMHO,,,,IM old .74 and now you can understand where Im coming from,,,yes l miss the old knobs and needle gauges,,,lol now where did I park my 442 olds?????????????????????
There ws a time when you could spot the make AND model of a car from blocks away. I understand that a lot has to do with COF to cut down on wind resistance for better mileage but still....

I used to divide the consumers into two groups. To add, these consumers have families.

Consumers that go hunting, fishing, camping, towing a trailer or a boat will go for a SUV.

Those who truck the kids to the ball field or gym will go for the minivan.

Now, the minivan has been usurped by the crossover or CUV. Some crossovers blur the distinction.

It's really not a matter of hating SUV's as much as it is a matter of a lack of alternative choices like a regular hatchback that's an actual hatchback. Like my 1985 and 1995 Ford Escorts. What they label as a "hatchback" today is really just a small station wagon in appeareance.

But this is really just small station wagon:

My point being that they actually think that if I can't get what I really want, I'll buy a SUV since it's the closest thing and/or not giving people a choice is actually OK. They will claim that certain cars won't sell, but they sell millions of them outside the US and won't bother making a US speced version of something that they sell lots of elsewhere. It's not the SUV's that I hate, it's the lack of an alternatives.

To further rant, if you do buy one of the above pictured vehicles that's really a small station wagon, you'll end with with a CVT or dual clutch transmission that you won't get with a SUV. It's just another way to encourage you to get a SUV.
The Golf comes (came) with an 8 speed auto, not a CVT or dual clutch.

Some of the more car like ones are less objectionable (like the 2013 - Ford Escape)
They are all indeed getting better. I am currently driving my FILs(RIP) FWD only, 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.4L/6spd auto w/ 20K miles. Been driving it for over a week thus far. It's very nice. My wife & her side of the family have it for sale as their dad has just past away in OCT at 92 yrs old.

I may write a review on this SUV when we're done wit it. We've been driving it back & forth between NY & PA and it is indeed a nice vehicle.

Because that's a problem in North Carolina???
I don't even need that in central Maryland. FWD works just fine. I even made it home and back to work in iced up roads last month.

It can be. But that's the rational between the full frame suv, and the smaller awd vehicles.

What's an SUV? My Soul was originally a hatch, then lumped in with three others as a 'box car', then rebranded mid generation 2 as an SUV since Kia needs lots of suvs. My title calls it a station wagon. Me, I'm old and it's easy on the knees.

You would be surprised at how much big heavy snow can fall in the mountains of western NC. In the superstore of 1993 there was 3 feet of snow in many mountain areas with 15-20 inches of snow in the valleys. There have been a number of storms since where 12-24 inches of snow have fallen in western NC.

Absolutely!! Even at night you could tell the make and model of car from far away by the headlight configuration.

Crossovers are the least appealing type of vehicle to me. Every other type of vehicle seems to have a purpose while crossovers just sort of do everything OK. I try to convince my wife that a minivan would actually meet her needs much better than her Highlander, but for some reason she thinks minivans aren't cool (as if a CUV is 🤣).

The "minivan" is the Crown Vic of vehicles on BITOG. There have been many on here who try to talk their spouses in to a minivan, only to be rejected. They are no more likely to want to own a minivan as they are a Crown Vic. They don't want to put in that "box" (pun intended) that minivans seem to have.

I'm a huge fan of minivans. If she doesn't want one then maybe we'll get one as a third car someday and I'll drive it.
