All the talk of timing chain failure?!

Never had any timing chain failure in any vehicle.

75 Malibu
78 Malibu
1985 Mustang GT
1987 Mustang GT
1996 Crown Vic with almost 400,000 miles
2015 Ecoboost Escape

My dad had a few jump a tooth on his 302's that he drove hard. No issue, it just ran like trash until he fixed it typically he said. Other than that, I've never heard of but ONE timing chain failure. A patient of mine had a G37 VQ37 engine that had one fail. Nuked the heads of course. I think he said he had 150K-ish miles on it?

People buy what’s on sale

Cant buy that which doesn’t exist
Exactly. If something were to happen prematurely to my '16 Buick LaCrosse sedan, I'd be hard put to find something else like it -- certainly not from Buick, which has phased out all its sedans and its one convertible, the Cascada. I'll admit the Envision is not a bad-looking vehicle, and the current Enclave is much better-looking than the first gen, but they are big and will use a lot of gas. And I can fit my cats' carriers into the sedan, and its back seat folds down. I don't *need* an SUV or CUV at this point. (Though I liked driving the X3 BMWs that the dealer loaned me in 2019.)

If need be, I could go to Toyota or Lexus for a used sedan.

I never thought much of owning a SUV. After renting several Suburbans for long trips I changed my mind and ended up buying a Tahoe. I just feel a lot safer out there on the highway surrounded by tractor trailers in the pouring rain plus less worry driving through flooded streets which happens often in my neck of the woods due to high tide combined with monsoon rain. I have seen a lot of low vehicles die in the flooded streets. Plus I prefer sitting up higher.

As far as gas mileage goes I get around 25 MPG if it is all highway on 87 octane Mobil. Locally it is more like 16 MPG. Holds 26 gallons of fuel which is awesome for long trips IMHO. I get the exact same mileage I got on my 4.6 Crown Vic and 4.6 Town Car. I would buy another 5.3 Tahoe or 5.3 Suburban in a heartbeat.

Even a well cared for PPV or SSV is not a bad option. Especially if it was a supervisor vehicle. Mileage never scares me as long as I can see all service records. I would never buy a front line PPV vehicle. A PPV is a good option for your kids. They are a lot safer in that [especially if they have a long commute to school or work] then in a smaller vehicle.

All that IMHO. To each their own.

I've always liked them and I understand why they have made the sedan obsolete; they sit higher, you can see the road, there's more space, you can tow with them, they're good in the snow, and some of them drive really well...even compared to a sedan. They look great, they've become the family hauling/do everything, yet pull up to a nice hotel in style, vehicle.

Yet I drive a sedan now because I get better acceleration, gas mileage and handling. It was cheaper too - a totally loaded sedan for around $10,000 less than a similarly equipped SUV - I can't tow with it (wouldn't anyway), I can't fit as much in the trunk (all well), it's doesn't have AWD but it's front wheel drive and a tank with snow tires...and I get around 8-10 mpg more, with the ability to go 0-60 two seconds faster. While saving $10k.

What fwd sedan is doing 0-60 in 4 seconds and getting 35-40mpg?

Yours, according to your post. You're saying it does all that and I want to know what your driving! I like my awd SUV, but that's super impressive.
2016 Avalon. 1.5 seconds faster than Toyota SUV’s (4 runner, Highlander), averaging 32 mpg in summer and 29.9 in winter.

These days i see nothing but SUVs and hatchbacks on the roads, cars like the DS7, Peugeot 3008, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Mercedes GLS etc. Every car maker has one. It began with hatchbacks after around year 2000 and now SUVs. I can't understand what's appealing about those cars, all of the time they're a combination of everything i don't like, like downsized turbo engines, the feeling of being high above the road, it feels to me like i'm seating in the roof of the car and i must thay that even small city cars feel this way nowadays. I like sedans, wagons, sporty cars and trucks but for some reason the only modern rare modern cars i like or care about are always the sedans or trucks. Am i the only one stuck in the 90s? Explain to me what made you like and want to buy this kind of car? I sound like an old fart but i'm only 27.
Suv’s are here to stay , you should take a look at the new Bronco Sport

There are definitely faster, and better handling SUV's out there than those, but they most certainly aren't getting that kind of gas mileage.
