I just added almost whole bottle (9 out of 10 premeasured doses)of Redline S1
It says on the back that a whole bottle can be used for quick cleaning. The car is Acura 3.2 CL typeS with 102,000 km (62,000mi).Some folks say that injector/fuel systems can ruin injectors if used in high concentration, I have always used 2-3 times a year just regular STP or Gumout but never the highly concentrated stuff. Can this hurt my injectors?
What say you?

I dont know if I agree with SS... especially if you buy decent high quality gas... but it doesnt hurt to clean!

The biggest issue is that these solvents can sometimes recondense during engine operation during the compression stroke, finding their way into the engine oil, potentialy harming bearings and whatnot along the way. Additionally, whatever they may actually be cleaning will find some of itself in the oil... thus why they reccomend to change the oil after using this stuff.

Given that you didnt just put in a maintenance dose, I assume youre going to be changing the oil soon, right?

I believe the harming of injectors had to do with some of the materials selection of some older GM injectors... as a whole, I dont believe this is an issue, the materials should be compatible.

I think youll be fine so long as you plan to change your oil soon after using most of the tank of fuel up. In general, these sort of things are fine if done just once in a while... but as a whole youe better off using a gentle product in maintenance doses, like FP or similar.

OK in this case then can I keep my oil in or change it out? I just put 1,500km on it it is GC green and Purolator filter changed 3 days ago 'cause I thought ST was giving me engine knock at startup.
If it is not solvent based then any detergents that find their way into the oil should not harm anything

Redline is not solvent based it is Amine based and you are fine! GM,BMW,Toyota and (Lubrizol??) have all published papers on the importance of useing fuel additives to keep injectors clean. Useing Top Tier fuels help but their are none of those in my area at all. GM had used some extremely cheaply built injectors that came apart internaly if solvent based injector cleaners were used. These junk injectors are not on themarket any more.

from what i remember, a whole bottle treats up to 20 gallons. i typically use a half bottle in my civic which i believe has an 11.9 gallon tank. i emailed redline one time asking if it does any harm if you use too much, they said no. sometimes i use a little more than 1/2 because its hard to gauge when the bottles tilted in your filler neck.

It won't hurt anything.

My wife also has a 1998 Civic (11.9 gallon tank) and I have used the entire bottle of Redline S1 injector cleaner with no problems. Just make sure you fill up the gas tank completely after you pour it in.

i've been using the cheap stuff from AAP...
is it any good?

Its the same stuff you will find in "STP Super Concentrated Fuel Injector Cleaner". IMO it is just 90%+ kerosene. The only types of fuel system cleaners I really believe in are the PEA based ones(Redline, Regane, Techron) and FP60. FP60 solved an injector "hiss" at high throttle that none of the others could touch. So FP gets alot of respect from me.

Other than those, most of what you find on the shelves are just well marketed kero based products. Best thing on the shelves to really clean things up I strongly believe is Redline. Too bad AAP and AZ pulled it from their stores.

I can't comment on the cleaning abilities of other adds like MMO and lucas. I personally have found they can help increase throttle response and WILL make your engine smoother. But as for cleaning, I just don't know. Both will burn clean though.

My way of dosing on Redline has been half bottle per tank, for 2 tanks in a row. Car purs afterward.

Thanks!
My AAP still carries Redline and the SOB's never did put it on sale...

I run a third of a bottle in a 35 gal tank all the time with no ill effects.BMW gives Redline its own part# and packages it in smaller doses. If the BMW engineers don't feel its necessary to change the oil afterward thats good enough for me.

all I know is either i'm nuts or adding 8 oz of Lucas UCL to my tank smoothed it out by the time i made the 40 mile drive home!!!
