I wouldn't jump from ATF to 90wt gear oil.

I'd try the Redline MTL.

Another option is to use a high mileage ATF, like Pennzoil or Valvoline.

Or, top off your transmission with up to a quart of 'snot' like Lucas.

The best way to fix a leak is to replace the gasket or reseal whatever is leaking!

Where is it leaking from?

its leaking from the rear seal

theres a lot of bimmer owners using mt90 to handle lightweight flywheel noises and its fine. companies reccomend it aswell.

i used mtl for about a year, it was great and leaked less, hence the mt90 i'm thinking right now

if theres a way to reseal without dropping the transmission... i'm there

i've had a leak from my transmission recently and i really dont want to drop it anytime soon. i've used auto rx but that didnt seem to help. as a matter of fact the leaking got worse after i switched to the synchromesh and treated it with a-rx.

so now i'm looking for a higher weight oil that may help some. so far the Redline MT-90 seems like a good alternative. thoughts?

the transmission is a bmw ZF 5 speed with an orange label calling for ATF only.
