As far as concerning me, I could see me having an accident with someone driving one with a child in the front only seat and killing or severely injuring them for life and I must live with that for the rest of my life.

Well, I applaud your social conscience, but smart cars have been around 15 years now and I have yet to see any stats showing them to be listed as the most dangerous cars on the road.
Sure size matters, but there will always be Bigger vehicles on the road even if you drive a Hummer or F250.
As I said, they are not for me, but neither is a Motorcycle, However I will not deride anyone for riding one.
What Ido not understand is the hostility many people seem to have toward 'efficient' vehicles in general, and/or there owners!
What's the Gripe?
