We saw a couple cops in the neighborhood riding on what I'd call dirt bikes. Never saw cops on motor bikes like this before.

I came out of the market about a month ago and there was a hippie in the bed of my truck. I asked him what he thought he was doing. He said he needed a ride. OK, started the Cummins and shouted out the window-I'm stopping at the PD and then magistrate court, where are you getting off? Heheh

At about 10 mph he hopped out the back.

Typical entitlement mentality of low class people. You see, he was ENTITLED to lean on any darn car he wanted to, it's his RIGHT to do so. In his mind.

And a valuable lesson here.... Respect. Most street fights and even many murders all come down to respect (or lack thereof)

When a common street thug is "disrespected", especially in front of his boys, that is unacceptable and must be handled.

There is a fine line to handle these events without "disrespecting" the guy.

These people create situations that they can either erupt into violence, or walk away from presenting it as a mistake.

One evening years ago (BC-before Children), I walked home from the pub...my now wife told me not to, but I could virtually see our house from the taxi rank...two mates got in the taxi, I could virtually see my street, and hoofed it.

Walking through the "plaza" (lucky to be 40' wide, and 60' long, very open), a guy stepped in and asked for a smoke...5 others stepped in around me.. these guys had put people in hospital doing this before. Then leader saw the Iron Maiden T-Shirt, said the his team that Iron Maiden were the best band in the world..."seeya later mate, have a good night".

Those situations are THAT volatile and unpredictable...and the point I was making...fabricated so that they can go either way.

I'm losing my street cred as I turn into an old man, but down here, body language is an important part of face to face meetings - and I don't mean puffing up and being a tough guy, it's much more subtle than that. Had some clown trying to stare me down yesterday, I just shook my head and walked away...the guys at work said he was out there most of the day strutting around, and everyone ignored him.

People have no respect for others or their property anymore. In their mind, they see nothing wrong with leaning on, or sitting another's vehicle. I used to catch people sitting on my motorcycle all the time without asking. They got off pretty quickly when I threatened them with bodily harm. I don't put up with this garbage...

This is definitely what would happen in the city the OP was in. There seems to be a special breed of people in that city, I avoid it if all possible. Only in Philly will people at the WaWa will hold the door open for you just to run you over in the parking lot.

I have noticed that certain cultures in this world hold little regard for personal anything. Personal property, personal space, etc.

I've had to tell people not to lean on my vehicles before. Not a bunch, but a few.

On one such occasion, it was a clearly rough character hanging out with equally aggressive characters. They all literally stopped talking and stared at me when they saw me approaching. I just looked everyone in the eye randomly as I opened my mouth and said in a disarming tone, "Now if it was me, and I was leaning up against your ____, what kind of look would that Be? What would you wanna do about that?".

That actually got me an apology, an "aight aight", a fist bump, and a jovial proclamation that he definitely had "some ____ in his garage" that would pull on "my ____" on the highway.

I work in Miami. Plenty of ways that encounter could have cost me my life. Too much passive, or too much aggressive, and things go downhill fast.

I think the lack of civility started with your daughter. "Would you mind not leaning against my car? Thanks..I appreciate that..have a great day" Is a much better way of dealing with these things.

Like said, it’s a fine line. One should avoid talk, eyeballing, and mannerisms that would escalate a violent person to attack.

Maybe you act aggressive and hard all the time. And maybe that has mostly worked out for you in the past. But do that ONE time to the wrong person, and you end up shot/stabbed in a ditch, or dead. You should avoid violence at all cost, unless you have no choice and cannot escape, and when that time comes THEN use overwhelming violent action.

I HIGHLY recommend everyone read Violence of Mind: Training and Preparation for Extreme Violence by Varg Freeborn, published in 2018. This is a life changing book, and should be required reading for all.
