Unoriginal and small and even cheap-looking...

I'll take a 500 ABARTH.

Like I was saying, everyone has an opinion, no matter how preposterous it may be to someone else. Nothing wrong with that, especially when it comes to something as inconsequential as taste. I disagree with your opinion on the design of the Alfa, but like you I do like the Abarth.

Loud? Those testers at C&D have no idea what loud is, all modern cars are quite.

I was at the track a few weeks ago watching post war Alfa's race, very nice cars. Very smooth and very fast.

They had a similar vintage SLR Mercedes with Sir Stirling Moss driving and he was putting down lap times 5 seconds slower, although admittedly not getting on it.

If they both raced in the same class IDK who would do better the Alfa's looked like cats slinking around the track I suspect they had a lot left to give. I don't know if the Mercedes could out HP them.

Alfa knows how to build a capable car.

I am not all that enamored of the current one, not the least because of the way they are marketing it to the hipsters with all of those swishy sounding TV ads.

I don't watch tv ads, so I wouldn't know about Fiat 500 tv ads. I feel attracted or repelled by things other than emotions tapped into by advertising.

Yes, but I also don't like that it is ONLY available (the 2 door Abarth version) in FWD, and not AWD, so it is NOT only about ad generated "emotions".

The Alfa 4C is an "emotions" car.

If you're the type of person who buys cars based on the emotions you experience when you look at and drive a car, this car is meant to cause your pants to fall down to your ankles from the first time you set eyes upon it, and for your wallet to fall into the sales manager's hands the moment you hear it fire up.

My wife nearly fell for this trap at the beginning of the year.
Actually, she did. When we finally got to lay eyes on it on January 5th, she started tearing up, that's how beautiful it was to her.

Instead, we custom ordered a 2015 Cayman, and we currently have over 10k miles in 3 months of bliss.

We need a car we wouldn't be afraid to drive every day, and that wouldn't actually be trying to kill us on a cross country trip, like we did in July. 5k miles in 2 weeks would be torture in the Alfa.

Thanks for the warning on the wife situation. Mine loves the Alfa Romeo designs and even wanted to travel abroad to get one at some point. I have to steer clear of the dealerships when these are finally available in the US.

Probably not... because I like their cars, too. I am now picturing the speed of my wallet falling in the hands of the dealer.

I'll just work a bit overtime and cut down on the gambling for a while.

Or maybe the other way around. You might get lucky.

Seriously, I respect your decision to match your daily driver with your daily commute. That way you get the most out of you BRZ instead of always being tempted to risk getting speeding tickets or perhaps go to jail.

AR 4C is a very serious car. With only 250 hp it matched Corvette time on TG test. Without any modifications. It's also very economical.

Fiat is preparing a new light spider based upon new Miata, but with some more oomph. Top version is getting the same engine as a 4C with around 200 hp. Abarth 124 with Miata underpinnings and more serious engine sounds great to me.

Giulia is coming soon, QV version is 14 sec quicker than a M4 on a Nurnburgring. That is a lot.

From what I read online this Alfa Romeo should be weekend car only just likes Lotus Elise. Its handling is very sharp just likes cart, ride is very firm borderline hash such that it is not suitable for daily drive, especially where the streets are not smooth as glass. But there is no doubt that its styling is better than any coupe in its class.

Fiat is coming out with a new 124 Spider by summer. It's a close relation to the 2016 Mazda MX5 but with a turbo that provides more horsepower and torque than the Mazda. The body shares much with the MX5 but added some touches here and there so that it looks like a different vehicle. I actually like the Mazda better...the body that is. It would be interesting if Mazda would ever consider adding more power to the MX5 though.
