What is a good alarm system and how much should I spend. The car is new and I don't want to mess it up.I'm in Toronto,Canada. Is window etching and engine disablers enough?

I leave an empty open box with air holes in the box on the seat with the word "SNAKE" on it.

For longer parking, I might leave a note in the window "If this car needs to be moved, please don't step on my pet snake" #903-555-1234.

Ain't lost a pet snake yet

A good clean install shouldn't do anything to mess up a new car.

I've got a Gargoyle in my own car, and have put in a couple of Autopage alarms and a Viper in friends' vehicles. No problems as of yet with any, other than that since one was a trunk install I had to extend the antenna into the back deck area for decent range. These were all fairly inexpensive systems (around $100 cdn ea, except for the Viper). The only other thing I could possibly see wanting is a pager alarm if my car was really valuable, so I would know right away if someone was messing with my car. Unless your car is really something special, I think a basic alarm will deter most thieves since most other cars would be less hassle to steal.

A well hidden switch telling the car that the clutch isn't disengaged or that the vehicle isn't in park is also helpful.

I'm unfamiliar with window etching.

the only thing that can go wrong is getting the polarity wrong...some cars have positive and negitive polarity..but if u get it installed they wont get it wrong. a good alarm is basically clifford, presiege whihc i like. look to spend 150 plus for an alarm and stay away from viper, code, karr etc. i can actually disable a viper myself. just get a trunk, and hood trigger, and make sure they secure the brain thats in the car. tell them to try and hide the horn and hook it up to ur car horn so if someone brakes into ur car and cuts the siren horn, the car horn will still go off...may cost extra but its ur car
