I keep seeing Bittogers dispensing anti-DFM advice, such as disabling a brand new Chevy engine with a Range disabler.

GM manufacturers over a 1/2 million of these engines each year, and the 2025 gas trucks in 1/2 tons have the system.

If anyone is brave enough, post the mileage on your DFM equipped truck. ( without the disabler) or cam and lifter package. Thanks.

I have a coworker with a 2014 sierra with the 5.3 and something like 240k miles. I know it consumes a bit of oil but no major engine repairs. Rebuilt transmission at 150k of course.

Always run on 0w20, 8-10k oci's i believe.

I have 106,000 km on my Corvette and it has AFM and I haven’t fully disabled it with a Range module but for the last few years I have been in the habit of driving it in “paddle mode” instead of leaving it in drive. Driving it in manual mode disables the AFM. Hopefully this will be enough to keep me from having lifter issues in the future. I’m hoping to put at least 500,000 km on this car before I’m too old to drive it (I’m 55 so hopefully I have at least 30 years or more!) 🤞

There are Caprice PPVs with over 200,000 miles and 15,000 engine hours still running the original valve train components.
I still yanked it out of mine.
The disabler does not guarantee you will not have a failure. I am not sure there is any rhyme or reason as to why one vehicle fails
and another does not.

Here is a screen shot of the 2024 Chevy Tahoe 9C1 police pursuit vehicle. It has V rated tires good for 149 MPH with a top speed of 140 mph. I would think the driving demands on this 355 HP 5.3 liter engine would be higher than a normal civilian vehicle. It comes equipped with DFM.
