Pads are now copper-free. The shims appear to have a "textile type material" on them, not sure what it is. I think some Textar pads use this design. The "AS487" edge code is also one that I do not recognize.

Installed them today. The pedal feel is surprisingly good - these did not have the “squishy feel” that was common before the formula change. Overall, they feel very comparable to OE. Not quite as aggressive as the DFC 5000 pads that I took off, but at least these are quiet.

So we’re the dfc pads a bit noisy? Because those were ones I was considering for my car whenever I do the brakes (fall probably). Akebono always disappoint me with their feel, but I appreciate the clean wheels and longevity.

Akebono - for my car, or the rear I can get the better Performance Ultra pads (ASP), for front they don't make them, only ACT.
I don't know why that is, but it is...

Of the 8 sets I have installed, this has been the only set.

The pads have stopped well, are sized properly and have delivered great pedal feel. Price is unbeatable too.

The only time I have used Akebono ProACT Ceramic was on my wife's Lexus RX300 and they were a great pad. Quiet and smooth while having excellent bite, HOT & COLD. The never made a peep nor any noticeable dust. I have only just noticed that there is a new formula ProACT. I saw it at the TireRack.

So if one were to order akebono pads, how would you know if you’re getting the new ones? Tire rack, for my car at least, has them discounted and no mention of a new composition, both of which would make me think they are the typical or “old” formula.

if the new formula has a nice pedal feel I’d be inclined to try them again. They’re all around on my sienna but just don’t grab great.

I tired searching the nsf.org data sheets but I don’t know the part number of the pads I’d use (they aren’t listed by the selling part number, instead they’re listed by a part number only found on the pad like critic posted a picture of).

You probably have to buy from a vendor who makes A LOT of inventory. In my experience, RockAuto (parts authority) always has the freshest inventory. Even worldpac's stock is a lot older than their's.

I have two more sets coming later today, I can post a picture when they arrive.

that’d be appreciated! I’ve got a bit, likely till fall just so I’m not doing my brakes in the winter on my Mazda (I work on my cars outside).
