Aisin Honda water pump any good?

I’m at 62,600, Aisin, LS430. Indie recommended Aisin over Lexus, because it’s what they use and have had good experience with for they said 20+ years. But they also said it’s your money we’ll install whatever you want.

I think it’s a shame when a quality brand is summarily dismissed because a person says it’s not good. Meanwhile how many are out there who never gave it a second thought and it’s what’s in their cars.

Make no mistake nobody is saying Aisin is OE or OEM. It’s aftermarket. Like Gates. I’d use it again next time without hesitation.

Are Genuine Honda pumps made by Yamada for that application?
I believe that Japanese are not transparent like German. With German one knows when a part is OE, OEM, or aftermarket. Even on this forum folks routinely say OEM when they mean OE. I know what came out of my car was Mitsoboshi, NSK, and one more make escapes me as it was 8 years ago

Sure why not. I mean I’ve exclusively used Aisin pumps on every Asian vehicle I’ve ever worked on, all the vehicles in my sig plus an old Camry I maintain for someone. When the timing belts come due the pumps look pristine. I also used an Aisin oil pump on that same Camry.

So why wouldn’t I be a fanboy at this point? We are talking over 1,000,000 miles of combined service and not even the hint of a failure. Should I be expecting one soon?
not until The Car Care Nut on yt makes a video saying so, then be afraid, be very afraid.

Aisin is or was OEM for my Toyota vehicles. When purchased aftermarket the Toyota logo was ground off.

For the ones I’ve used they have been almost works of art. I haven’t had a bit of trouble with them, nor with the one I’ve used in the Accord.

Sorry to hear about the premature failure
I'll continue to be forever jealous of those with WorldPac access 😭

Apparently some NPW pumps are available from AAP and on Amazon

I got mine from AutohausAZ. It was $40 + shipping. Advance has the Aisin listed for $140 and this NPW for $80.

How much, if ya don't mind? Thanks in advance!

$40+shipping (y)

Earlier in the thread (last year), someone posted a link to a Honda dealer selling the pump for $95. I'd have probably just bought that one...but it's doubled in price since that post.

After a ton of research I recently installed an Aisin kit on my daughter’s Acura RDX. Ordered the kit from Summit Racing due to reports of counterfeits off eBay, Amazon and RA. I was very impressed with the quality. Even the factory pumps have reports of the warble sound. So far no problems or warble noises.

Partsgeek is basically the Rockauto of Worldpac. Still not the same thing as being a member of the secret club, but it helps a little.

The Japanese usually are transparent, but they might switch suppliers more often

Mazda has been the main exception due to previous ties with Ford. It's the Americans that are most secretive about their suppliers :sneaky:

The water pumps will say Hitachi or Aisin or Yamada or GMB or whoever is the OE supplier, foe example. The supplier will be indicated on the parts themselves.
I ended up buying a made-in-Japan NPW pump and swapped it today. 40k miles on the Aisin. Very disappointed in the Aisin. @JeffKeryk

Let us know how long the NPW lasts :)

Seriously, what is special about WorldPac?

I know when I was a kid, I was a fan of Bap Geon. The posters always caught my eye.

As mentioned the indie gave me all the parts back from the timing belt job. It was an Aisin kit, and the outer box said WorldPac with my name on it.

Worldpac has a wide selection of quality aftermarket and OEM parts at a fair price. People lucky enough to have access can get a good deal. They have a lot of good parts for Japanese cars that other distributors just don't carry.

WorldPac is convenient - 4 deliveries a day and a decent size catalog of parts OEM and aftermarket parts.

A few years ago, I had a guy order a (new Denso) starter for me from WorldPac. Even with him adding a few $$ for himself, it was cheaper than anywhere else and I got it that day (vs waiting for shipping).

One showed the fins being a little shorter than the OE pump

I too am starting to think AISIN water pumps are getting a little skimpy in quality NOT JUST compared to OE, but within their own product line over the years.

I'm in the middle of a timing belt change on a J32A engine. Observe closely the fins on both of these aftermarket AISIN pumps. Also, the older AISIN has the fins bent slightly downward (perhaps it created a stronger vortex??) The old one had the previous AISIN stamp in the BLOCK lettering, whereas the new one has the stylized AISIN font shown on their printed materials/website etc...

I'm not sure those two issues would turn me off the brand, but everyone is different I guess.
