Aftermath of a Cardiac Ablation Monday = Success!

alarmguy- good to hear it went well and you don’t have to take meds now. How old are you, if you don’t mind me asking?

I was having episodes of SVT's dating back to my teenage years at least . After three trips to the ER in a little over a year and having two doses of " Heart Attack in a bottle " to break the Tachycardia each time , I finally took my Doctors' advice and had the Ablation . Been nearly 10 years without an episode . The procedure was a piece of cake .

I have a Fitbit Sense 2. It can do all the things an Apple watch can do. I can take an EKG any time I want. It would be nice to know ahead of time what the alerts for various hearth conditions will look like and where they will show up. Watch or FitBit app on phone.

Great news on the ablation procedure!

Do you happen to know the manufacturer of the catheter(s) that were used? I only ask because I used to engineer in manufacturing at Boston Scientific in the Electrophysiology. We made mapping, ablation (RF and cold) catheters as well as stents and balloons.

In 2015 I was a recipient of one of our stents.

Glad it went well !

We lost a family friend 1 month ago at age 59 to heart fibrillation, he died in his sleep but the doctor that made the house visit was able to determine from the Apple watch he wore what caused it and when he actually died. Too bad these things can't signal a loved one that something is happening.

Actually they can. I think it was last year that Apple brought in secure health sharing so you could share your info with another person.

I have a lot to add to this thread, and I want everyone to know I TRULY appreciate the comments and will start posting more on Monday.
To add to this whole crazy whacked out week we were in the middle of a move as we sold our house and close in two days when I had the ablation done and have not had my usual time at my computer. Talk about insane.😟

Yeah, but you can handle it.

I have a Boston Scientific L331 Accolade pacemaker. It was implanted for symptomatic bradycardia. It works great!

No idea of any details except I think four were used. I have 4 pencil sized tip looking punctures two on each side. Just an amazing process that 4 wires were threaded up into my heart while it was beating. I do not want to make it sound like nothing though. I was an "easy" case for them from what I understand, except for that one short circuit my heart is in great shape considering. The process was WAY less painful that a root canal on a tooth! Granted though, you only have one heart and if they screw up, well, you only have one heart so dont think I wasnt a little concerned but I wanted off that drug. Flecainide which I am now off. I take no heart medicine and trying to stay off every medicine I can.

My brother is a whole other story and some months back had extensive, so extensive some of it was considered experimental ablations for a host on vtachs, v this, v that S this s that... he almost died a number of times this year. An IMPLANTED ICD/Pacemaker combo saved his life a few times and it was just in time that he had it implanted this year as another middle of the night emergency he went to the closest hospital instead of his regular one, the implanted device shocked his heart back into rhythm before the hospital could figure out what was going on, he said they were taken back when his chest lurched into the air, it felt like a grenade going off in his chest.
HE felt better right away, and literally walked out of the hospital. That was months ago, they just read the implanted devices information for the last few months, no heart issues since the many ablations. TO say he is thrilled is an understatement. He got the right treatment, right place, right specialist, right equipment from what I hear this new imaging system is only recently two places in the world (or was)
So far I have beat many (almsot all) of the issues with the men on my side of the family, I would like to think my extremely healthy eating habits (way more so the last 2 decades) and weight have helped this greatly but one never knows, sometimes its just the genes that you are given.

SO far I am stent free, Im only at 20% blockage or plaque and doctor said that was a max number used in the field. I know that name from the Financial world Boston Scientific. But not invested. I hope you continue to do well.
Being proactive, this morning I am going for a CT Scan of my lungs, no symptoms but the foolishness of smoking earlier in my life my doctor says think of it like any check up. I never smoked heavy, in fact my family never even saw me smoke, was workplace thing mostly. I just hate searching for the "unknown" when everything is good. Yet my doctor is conservative and not a believer in unnecessary stuff but this one I can see he really believes in so I am doing it.

My heart rate is on the lower side but I guess not to low yet. I have been asked if I work out and I do so at this moment they attribute it to because I am athletic. I dont know, I do know sleeping my rate drops to the low 50s. Actually just looked at my Apple Watch data and wish I didnt. 2 days ago a brief period it dropped to 41 hope it wasnt related to another PVC or other type of event and one other night 47. Maybe will keep an eye on that. Also can be a watch fluctuation maybe how it was on my wrist or something. Will see.

alarmguy,

Good to hear procedure went well without any complications.

OT:
I once worked on cardiac balloon pumps and perfusion (heart / lung bypass) equipment used for open heart surgery and I had to triple check all my calibrations, all my repairs / PM, everything to make sure zero mistakes were made.

Extremely important medical equipment that required attention to every detail. The patient on this equipment had one foot in the grave and the other foot balancing on a banana peel. No joke.

I envision the electrical system of the heart works like a rowing team where one guy is supposed to say “stroke, stroke” and afib is when some crew members can’t hear or some other cad is interrupting the lead guy.

Your above ground and feeling better.. god bless... i have had two near death experiences in the last couple years. It teaches you to do things you enjoy. And tell your friends and family how much you love them.

I appreciate hearing your story. Thank you for sharing. It helps me to hear about it. I may eventually get an oblate. On meds now that have it under control.

Glad it went well !

We lost a family friend 1 month ago at age 59 to heart fibrillation, he died in his sleep but the doctor that made the house visit was able to determine from the Apple watch he wore what caused it and when he actually died. Too bad these things can't signal a loved one that something is happening.
They can. I think, you can set it up to alert you. I have to look into it. My watch one morning did tell me about Afib Im not sure but if it cant now it will in the future. The watch can do some many things, it's hard to learn it all. Now I am going to look into this. Sorry to hear of your loss. Terrible.
AS my posts have said, the watch enabled me to show my doctor that even though I checked out kind of ok in his office, things were not ok at night. That is when they hooked up their own equipment to me as I SLEPT and confirmed the watch and started treatment.

The thing about the medical industry, as much as I loved my doctors they are too busy to focus and many times your are first filtered through their NPs (nurse practitioners) You REALLY have to stay on top of them and be your own advocate. I cant tell you all the scary nights I had before I FINALLY got more attention on the matter. The watch was invaluable in this regard.

My problem is/was I am in very good physical shape, I dont fit the stereotype. I have normal to low blood pressure, my lipid (cholesterol) are better than textbook perfect. My weight is good (BMI) but my family history is HORRIBLE. I am the only male in my family (past and present) who so far has avoided diabetes, major heart disease - quad bypasses, stents, heart failure.
I would like to think by taking care of myself to an extreme has delayed this greatly and maybe for my lifetime but I do have up to 20% plaque in my veins so I do have what would be termed heart disease however to give you an idea, a stress test does not show this until you are blocked up to 70% I only know about it because I had the "gold standard" angiogram done. 20% is nothing but its is there and I need to be diligent in the way I eat to avoid adding to it or slowing it as much as possible.

The thing is the doctors see these numbers and I feel like at times they have a hard time believing what I was telling them. But the ball started rolling last year, stress test which lead to a cardiac Angogram, echo grams and endless EKGs and a Holter Monitor. They prescribed a drug called Metoprolol and the drug didnt do anything, they doubled the dose and over time it still got worse, went to see an electrophysiologist and prescribed a FDA BLACK BOOK Warning drug called Flecainide which is dangerous as heck.

He did give me the option of Ablation or the drug, he said I am in such good health and my heart strong he would take the drug if it was him, this was only after I really pushed, he did leave it to me. He said try it for a few months and if I change my mind just let them know I want the ablation on the follow up and that is what I did.

Back to the watch, it is amazing, yes, you can look at what takes place with your heart anytime of day and there is a record of it on your iPhone. Including heart rate, O2 level and respiration rate. Once in a great while, if I get an INTENSE dream, I can actually go into my watch history on my iPhone while I was sleeping and see the increase of the heart rate and respiration rate at the time I was dreaming. (It's a little hit and miss) as these stats are randomly chosen by the watch as to when it is monitoring you in a given time period.

I came in here today to update what has happened since the ablation but now out of time. Going to the gym, my first day back was just two days ago, didnt make it through the whole one hour session for the first time ever I left 10 minutes early, got really dizzy. So I am going back again right now at 10am and give it another try. I run my heart rate up to around 140 to a peak two days ago of 173 BPM for up to 30ish minutes during the only hour session but couldn't make it through the other day.

I POST WHAT I DO IN HERE, WHICH TAKES UP A HUGE AMOUNT OF TIME TO STRESS TO PEOPLE, IF YOU FEEL SOMETHING ISNT RIGHT, DONT LET THEM TELL YOU "I DONT THINK ITS ANYTHING TO WORRY ABOUT" STAY ON TOP OF THEM, THIS IS YOUR LIFE, YOU PAY FOR HEALTH INSURANCE MAKE THEM TREAT YOU LIKE THEY TREAT YOUR ELECTED OFFICIALS NO DIFFERENT THAN THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. ITS YOUR LIFE AN EASY TO FALL THROUGH THE CRACKS IN THE OVER WORKED MEDICAL SYSTEM.

Don't accept the words "I dont think" or "maybe" have it proven to you with tests, anything else is like oil, which is BS if its unproven. Make them prove it.
